Acute Care Registered Nurse (RN)

Acute Care Units Cardiology/Telemetry Controlled Access General Care General Medical Medicine Neurology Stroke Observation Oncology Surgery Trauma Transitional Recovery Unit University Medical Center is seeking experienced nurses for these acute care units. Patient Populations and Responsibilities Patients with cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and post‑cardiac procedures with continuous telemetry monitoring. Adult medical‑surgical patients with cardiovascular and vascular conditions. In‑custody or incarcerated patients requiring special security protocols (patient shackled, guard coverage, deputy accompaniment). Safe environment with 24/7 supervision. General medical surgical patients – pre‑operative, post‑operative, and general care. Neurology stroke, oncology, trauma, and transitional recovery patients. Management of telemetry monitoring, central line care, bladder scanning, IV management, wound care, chemotherapy administration, blood products, radioactive iodine therapy, and symptom management. Admission procedures including blood transfusion, blood product administration, radioactive iodine therapy, and palliative care support. Isolation precautions for airborne, droplet, and contact. Sepsis early identification and treatment, DVT/PE care, renal and metabolic monitoring, and infectious disease care. Trauma care for motor vehicle collisions, falls, gunshot wounds, and blunt trauma. Administration of chemotherapy, blood, and specialized oncology procedures. General surgery procedures – abdominal washouts, appendectomies, hernia repairs, vascular reconstruction, colorectal surgeries, and genitourinary surgeries. Minimum Qualifications Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Current American Heart Association BLS certification. Shift and Schedule Variable hours (Day/Night shifts). Self‑scheduling available.
