To help us deliver on our mission of a highly reliable and secure bulk power system in the Western Interconnection, we are seeking an Energy Policy Analyst to help us further our mission and achieve our business goals.
The Energy Policy Analyst will monitor, analyze, and communicate emerging policy, regulatory, reliability, and market developments affecting the Western Interconnection. This role will be an internal strategic resource, helping the organization understand evolving industry requirements, market rules, and policy trends.
While WECC's headquarters are located in Salt Lake City, Utah, this position is remote eligible for candidates residing in the Lower 48 states. Time spent traveling is expected to be a minimum of 10–20% for this role, though business needs may require additional travel on occasion.
You will—- Monitor and analyze emerging policy, regulatory, reliability, and market rule developments affecting the Western Interconnection.
- Track changes and discussions from industry organizations, utilities, regulatory bodies, government agencies, and stakeholder groups.
- Identify and communicate potential impacts of policy or regulatory changes.
- Develop concise summaries, reports, presentations, and briefing materials for executive management, internal stakeholders, and other diverse audiences.
- Translate technical, regulatory, and industry information into executive-friendly insights and recommendations.
- Attend industry meetings, conferences, webinars, committee meetings, and stakeholder discussions.
- Maintain awareness of emerging industry trends, risks, and strategic issues.
- Collaborate with internal operational, technical, legal, compliance, communications, and management teams to relay and support organizational understanding of policy developments and their effects on reliability in the Western Interconnection.
- Employ research and analytical skills to develop or apply new methods or approaches to strategic challenges.
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a technical field, public policy, business, political science, or communications (Juris Doctor preferred).
- Have a minimum of four years’ experience in policy analysis, regulatory analysis, energy markets, utility operations support, compliance, industry research, or a related field.
- Have a strong background in energy policy.
- Have experience analyzing and summarizing complex information for business and management audiences.
- Have experience preparing reports, summaries, presentations, and briefing materials.
- Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Can interpret and synthesize complex policy, regulatory, and technical information.
- Have strong written communication skills with the ability to create concise executive summaries.
- Can convey technical subject matter in understandable business terms.
- Have strong research and information-gathering capabilities.
- Can identify trends, emerging risks, and strategic implications.
- Possess strong computer literacy and proficiency using PCs, including a working knowledge of common applications such as those in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understand and adhere to sound principles of cybersecurity, including protecting sensitive information, using secure passwords, and following organizational cybersecurity protocols.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $77,700–$91,400 + discretionary pay + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and mid-point for the position across all locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
