Custodian - Parkwood Primary

Custodian

The Houston County Board of Education is looking for a custodian to keep buildings clean and orderly. This position reports to the principal and is non-exempt.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

1. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs, and office space.
2. Cleans carpet, bathrooms, grounds, parking lots, and windows, and AC/heating vents.
3. Empties trash and garbage containers.
4. Maintains building.
5. Sets up and takes down for school activities.
6. Supplies and resupplies materials for restrooms.
7. Changes light bulbs.
8. Notifies principal concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
9. Cleans sand and debris from sidewalks.
10. Monitors the use and amount of supplies and orders supplies when necessary.
11. Monitors/maintains limits on spending related to custodial budget.
12. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications:

1. High school education or GED preferred. One month related experience or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
3. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
4. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely. Must be willing to work flexible shifts.
