Wire Harness Technician

The Wire Harness Technician is responsible for the fabrication of complex wire harnesses and cable assemblies. This role involves precise wire cutting, terminal crimping, and assembly, working from a variety of technical documents, schematics or physical samples. The ideal candidate will have experience in prototyping or a high-mix, low-volume environment, demonstrating an ability to adapt to new designs, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately cut, strip, and terminate wires according to specifications.
  • Perform various crimping operations to attach terminals, connectors, and splices.
  • Assemble wire harnesses and cable assemblies by routing wires, applying protective coverings (e.g., heat shrink tubing, loom), and securing with ties or clamps.
  • Read and interpret engineering schematics, technical drawings, and work instructions to ensure correct assembly.
  • Utilize sample harnesses and prototypes to guide assembly and verify accuracy.
  • Conduct basic quality checks and testing on completed harnesses to ensure they meet quality and functionality standards.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall product quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety protocols.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in wire harness assembly, including cutting, stripping, crimping wires and assembly.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand schematics, technical drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • A strong willingness to learn new assembly techniques and processes.
  • Experience in a prototyping or high-mix, low-volume production environment is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of common wire types, terminals, and connectors.
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures for electrical assemblies.
