Sterile Compounding Specialist - Southampton Hospital

Position Summary In addition to Staff Pharmacist responsibilities, the Sterile Compounding Specialist will oversee the performance/operations of the compounding area within the Hospital Pharmacy and Phillips Family Cancer Center. The specialist will also manage personnel compliance, ensure adherence to Joint Commission standards regarding compounded sterile preparations (CSPs), handle environmental monitoring of IV rooms, and represent the hospital’s policies to regulatory agencies. Responsibilities Follow established departmental policies and procedures. Compound, label, and package medications and pharmaceuticals. Advise medical and nursing staff on medication usage, dosage, side effects, and composition. Securely store and count narcotics and controlled substances regularly. Assist in preparing required reports by compiling information. Document clinical interventions. Check for drug interactions, food/drug interactions, allergies, and dosage conflicts. Demonstrate competency in the use of the C-2 Safe and Pyxis Medstations. Assist staff with pharmaceutical waste disposal information. Train and educate staff regarding USP standards. Develop and manage SOPs related to sterile compounding. Ensure IV preparation areas comply with regulatory standards, including environmental and engineering control monitoring. Perform fingertip and media testing for all staff as required by regulatory standards. Collaborate with the USP officer on hazardous drug management. Required Experience and Qualifications NYS Pharmacy Registration and License. Completion of a 5/6 year pharmacy program (B.S. or PharmD). Experience in sterile compounding preparation. Physical Demands Occasional prolonged standing/walking. Occasional lifting of supplies/equipment up to 50 lbs. Travel May be required to travel to other locations to support operational needs.
