We are an equal opportunity employer including veterans and people with disabilities./ph3A Brief Overview/h3pThe Clinical Educator coordinates the units clinical and operational education needs./ph3Essential Functions/h3ulliAssumes responsibility for the orientation of new employees to the unit./liliCreates an orientation program for each role in the unit./liliDevelops, implements, and evaluates sterile processing unit specific skills classes for new employees./liliCollaborates with unit manager to counsel/coach new employees during orientation to assist the orientees progress towards gaining competency in unit standards/skills./liliSupports the preceptor role by:/liliCollaborating with CN, department leaders and preceptor to select appropriate assignments and learning experiences for new staff./liliFostering the use of adult learning strategies and critical thinking with preceptors by providing ideas, skill stations, different teaching styles, and related activities to help the preceptor be a more effective teacher./liliParticipating in the development, presentation, and evaluation of the preceptor program, in collaboration with other area educators and CNSs./liliAssumes responsibility for the coordination of staff education processes through the development, implementation, and evaluation of education materials/systems./liliCollaborates with appropriate resources (i.e. leadership team, CNSs, other educators, content experts, organization development) to analyze needs and develop, implement, evaluate and maintain education programs (i.e. orientation skills checklists, self-studies, education videos, education supplies, and orientation manual) based on annual needs assessment, staff request, unit direction, new equipment/care practices, variance trends, and patient/parent and other customers satisfaction./liliEducational activities reflect identified needs of the target audience and/or organizational priorities related to clinical practice./liliDesigns each educational activity to include documentation of a needs assessment, description of target audience, educational objectives, content outline, teaching methods (Cornerstone, self-study, presentation, real-time, simulation), evaluation strategies, and designation of appropriate resources (i.e. room arrangements, AV equipment, handouts, other teaching aids)./liliCreates programs that incorporate adult learning strategies, ethical principles, critical thinking skills, professional growth, open communication, and collaborative relationships./liliQuality of information developed is professional with regards to organization of information, clarity of instructions, attention to details, and presentation style./liliIdentifies staffs individual talent in order to assist in their personal and professional development by:/liliSharing ideas, experiences, and successful behavior patterns./liliEstablishing a relationship with the staff as a resource./liliProviding a supportive framework to guide career development./liliRole models and promotes high quality professional patient care through the use of clinical educational knowledge as seen in:/liliAssisting staff with direct patient care/liliReviews case cart and preference card before each case. Prepares the operating room by supplying it with supplies and instruments to provide appropriate patient care oSets up and maintains the sterile field during the procedure using strict aseptic technique oPrepares and labels fluids and medications on sterile field oPerforms appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed. oParticipates in time out/sign out process/liliScrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures./lilio Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon/proceduralist./liliImplements sharps safety practices including use of a safety zone./liliPrepares specimens for pathologic analysis/liliCleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization/liliAssists operating room team with environmental cleaning and case turnovers./liliStores and stocks supplies as needed/liliParticipates in assigned on call activities./liliUtilizes unit daily/weekly rounding as a tool in identifying educational clinical needs of staff/unit and teaches bedside staff to promote consistent delivery of patient care standards./liliAccepts assignment to be assigned to the unit for shift for direct patient care. Professionally supports the assigned unit as seen through interactions with patients, families, staff, colleagues, others./liliProfessionally seeks opportunities to help teammates during shift as needed./liliServes as preceptor for new staff within OR/SPD and other education staff as necessary./liliDemonstrates ability to prioritize workload and follows through with work in a timely manner./liliRegular attendance at work is an essential function of the job./liliPerform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section/li/ulh3Education Qualifications/h3ulliGraduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologist Required or/liliApplicable surgical technologist course of study Required/li/ulh3Experience Qualifications/h3ulliMinimum 2 years of experience working as a Surgical Technologist and/or competency in scrubbing in 2 or more surgical specialties as a Surgical Technologist Required/li/ulh3Skills And Abilities/h3ulliKnowledge and proficiency in applying the nursing process, nursing skills, and nursing research into patient care, teaching, and systems./liliAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to include use of computer technology in program presentations and/or data analysis./liliAble to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented./liliMust be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills./li/ulh3Licenses and Certifications/h3ulliBCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and/liliCST - Certified Surgical Technologist Required/li/ulpChildrens is the very best for kids and the very best for your career!
