External Research & Development Director As the Business Development Director within Amgen’s External R&D Early Innovation group, you will lead the search, evaluation, negotiation, and execution of external partnerships focused on small molecule drug discovery and technology supporting oncology. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, develop a global network of industry and academic contacts, and provide strategic recommendations and business negotiations to drive Amgen’s external strategy. Responsibilities Lead search and identification of partnership opportunities through networking and landscape reviews aligned with Amgen’s R&D strategy. Conduct technical evaluations by assembling cross‑functional review teams and providing recommendations based on scientific and industry knowledge. Coordinate business negotiations and work with legal to execute contractual agreements for select projects. Present strategic discussions and proposals to senior management, R&D, and other functions. Mentor colleagues and represent Amgen professionally to internal and external stakeholders. Maintain engagement with global internal groups to ensure robust communication of external insights. Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree in a scientific field and 4 years of experience in the drug development industry or biopharma business development. Master’s degree in a scientific field and 7 years of experience in the drug development industry or biopharma business development. Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field and 9 years of experience in R&D or biopharma business development. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate with strong knowledge in discovery and technology platforms. 4+ years of management and leadership experience in business, drug development activities, and licensing. Strong technical R&D and business development skills, with experience managing multiple projects. Excellent presentation, communication, and problem‑solving abilities. Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional teams, direct reports, and building internal/external relationships.
