Organization: PATCH/Pain Job Summary: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a vital role in delivering specialized care and managing the health needs of patients in either inpatient, ambulatory, or a combination of both settings. With advanced training and expertise, the APP focuses on subspecialized care, including chronic illness and disease management, ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient’s healthcare journey, which may span multiple years. This role involves specialization in a specific organ system, where the APP provides expert consultation within their area of expertise as appropriate. The APP is integral to supporting patients across the continuum of care in both inpatient and outpatient specialty settings, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Location: Vanderbilt Children's Surgery and Clinics (VCSC) in Murfreesboro, TN Position Hours: 4 10 Hour Shifts (Days) No Nights, No Weekends, No Call Department Summary: Learning your child needs surgery or general anesthetic can be distressing for you and them. Our pediatric anesthesia team is here to help. As part of our education for families with children requiring anesthesia, we connect you with our Preoperative Assessment and Teaching for Children’s Hospital (PATCH) clinic. Our pediatric anesthesia team at this clinic includes more than 20 nurse practitioners who have backgrounds in pediatrics, hematology/oncology and anesthesiology. A visit to this clinic will prepare you and your child to best cope with surgery. A specialist will explain the surgical process in a way your child will understand, with suggestions to help the procedure go smoothly. You'll meet with a family nurse practitioner who will learn about your child's and family's health, examine your child and talk with you about the operation and anesthesia. You'll also receive specific instructions to take with you about how to prepare at home. We encourage you to ask questions and share your concerns. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care (CPNP-PC), Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care (CPNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA) Prior Experience Preferred (Surgical RN or APP) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care. In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patients’ overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses. Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated. Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions. Prescribes therapeutic interventions for both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes. Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care. Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations. Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within a specialty scope of practice. Facilitates the patient’s transition between and within health care settings.
