Job Summary Deputy Sheriff – Recruit at Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. No prior law enforcement experience needed. Recruits attend a 26‑week POST‑approved police academy and, upon graduation, are sworn in as peace officers. New officers may initially be assigned to the Patrol Division or Custody Services Bureau. School Resource Officer Sexual Assault Unit Transportation Unmanned Aircraft Operator Violence Suppression Unit Safe Streets Task Force (FBI) Pay Range Deputy Sheriff – Recruit: $107,773.63 – $137,549.50 (2024–2025). 20% increase over 4‑year period effective 07/01/2023. Minimum Qualifications Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (out‑of‑state license accepted during application). High school diploma, GED, California high‑school proficiency certificate, or two‑year/ four‑year/ advanced degree from accredited college/university (public, private, or international). Legal authorization to work in the United States. Age 21 years at time of appointment. Satisfy health standards set by County Medical Consultant. Vision: 20/20 uncorr. each eye; corrected to 20/30 each eye. Hearing: No loss >25 dB in 500, 1000, or 2000 Hz ranges. Background: Complete background investigation, polygraph, medical exam, and psychological testing per CPTA standards. Veteran Preference Honorable discharge veterans, including disabled veterans, may receive a 5% bonus of their total earned score. DD‑214 must be attached with application.
