The Work You Will Do: Inspector III / District Six / District Maintenance / Maintenance Management & Systems This position will support the agency by ensuring all work within the State Right of Way meets strict State and Federal standards through detailed inspections, technical evaluations, and safety oversight of work zones. It contributes essential roadway data, contract documentation, and maintenance reviews that guide funding, compliance, and operational decisions. By serving as a technical liaison with contractors, permittees, and consultants, it helps maintain a safe, reliable, and well-managed transportation network.

Annual Salary Range: $45,830.63 - $59,310.22 A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.
Your Specific Responsibilities: Analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements. Use various engineering tools, equipment, Instruments and computers for performing technical engineering tasks, problem solving and record keeping. Provide information to consulting engineers, developers, architects and permit applicants as needed. Prepare all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI). Fill out data coding sheet and enter roadway data into computer database as needed. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs. Assists in the preparation of maintenance contracts. Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts. Performs plans reviews for maintainability and adherence to Department standards and specifications. Provides comments on Department policies and procedures as requested. Assist Maintenance Management System / Roadway Characteristics (MMS/RCI) Coordinator by reporting routine maintenance conditions as they exist in the field.
Perform interpretation of documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and take corrective measures when deficiencies are noted. Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees throughout life of projects as assigned. Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issues work documents on contracts as directed. Prepares and issues work documents on contracts as needed.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:

- This position requires the incumbent to complete the following self-study courses within 11 months of appointment Construction Math and Plan Reading.
- Must also obtain the Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification and National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) certification within one year and maintain it.
- While on duty status, may be required to drive state owned and leased vehicles to perform the duties of this position.
- Valid Class E Driver License is required.
- The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- May be required to work with or around hazardous materials; work nights and weekends and be available for emergency response work as necessary.
- Incumbent will be required to support the District's Emergency Operations Center whenever required.
- High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency, Class E Drivers License, and 12 months of infrastructure design, construction, or maintenance experience; or an Associate's Degree or higher.
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
- any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
