Emergency Department Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: Madison, Wisconsin
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Shift Times: Evening/night shifts, generally 3:00 p.m.–3:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; 8-hour shifts may be scheduled as needed
• Scheduling Requirements: Weekend and holiday rotation
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 4 patients per nurse
• Orientation: 20 hours
• Additional Assignment Detail: Floating to another emergency department location may be required as needed

Emergency Room RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin or a valid Compact RN license
• At least 2 years of Emergency Department or emergency room nursing experience within the past 3 years, caring for both adult and pediatric populations
• Experience in a high-volume emergency department, preferably with 40 or more beds
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Epic electronic medical record experience required
• Level II trauma experience required; Level I trauma experience preferred
• Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Current TNCC certification
• Ability to complete and pass a telemetry examination before the assignment begins, including adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation
• Travelers must meet the applicable 50-mile local assignment requirement
• Ability to work evening and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and float assignments as needed

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, timely, and compassionate emergency care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
• Perform rapid assessment, triage, reassessment, and prioritization of patients with a wide range of urgent and emergent conditions
• Care for patients experiencing trauma, stroke, STEMI, respiratory failure, sepsis, dysrhythmias, overdose, burns, neurologic emergencies, behavioral health crises, and multisystem illness
• Manage patients requiring advanced interventions, including ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, blood products, central lines, chest tubes, and procedural sedation monitoring
• Recognize and interpret cardiac rhythms, obtain 12-lead ECGs, and promptly escalate changes in patient condition
• Administer medications and treatments safely while maintaining accurate Epic documentation
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Provide clear patient and family education and support effective transitions of care
• Maintain a calm, professional presence while caring for patients and families in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency care environment
• Float to another emergency department location when required and adapt quickly to changing patient-care needs
