Associate Attorney

Associate Attorney — Surety, Construction & Civil Litigation Booth, Mitchel & Strange, LLP is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its litigation practice in Orange, California. The firm handles matters involving surety, fidelity, construction, performance bonds, payment bonds, contractor defaults, indemnity agreements, collateral demands, recovery actions, insurance-related disputes, personal injury, damages, commercial litigation, contract disputes, and general civil litigation. This position is ideal for an attorney with civil litigation experience who wants meaningful case responsibility, strong mentorship, and the opportunity to develop experience in surety, bond, construction, indemnity, recovery, and insurance-related litigation. What You Will Do The Associate Attorney will assist with all phases of litigation and claims handling, including case evaluation, pleadings, discovery, law and motion, court appearances, depositions, mediation, settlement evaluation, client reporting, arbitration, and trial preparation. Responsibilities Draft pleadings, motions, oppositions, replies, discovery, meet-and-confer correspondence, mediation briefs, settlement communications, client reports, and other legal documents. Handle written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, subpoenas, objections, document review, and motions to compel. Work on surety and bond matters involving performance bonds, payment bonds, contractor defaults, obligee claims, subcontractor claims, claimant disputes, indemnity agreements, collateral demands, reimbursement claims, subrogation, and recovery actions. Assist with construction, contract, commercial, insurance-related, personal injury, damages, and general civil litigation matters. Appear in court for hearings, case management conferences, status conferences, motions, ex parte applications, and other litigation proceedings. Assist with depositions, witness preparation, expert coordination, mediation, arbitration, settlement conferences, and trial preparation. Evaluate liability, damages, bond obligations, indemnity rights, recovery options, settlement value, and litigation exposure. Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, experts, vendors, attorneys, and staff. Qualifications Active member in good standing with the State Bar of California. Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Civil litigation experience preferred. Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple active matters. Professional judgment, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. Experience with surety, fidelity, construction litigation, bond claims, indemnity, recovery, insurance defense, personal injury defense, commercial litigation, or contract disputes is preferred but not required. Prior surety experience is helpful, but the firm will consider a strong litigation attorney with excellent writing skills and a willingness to learn surety, bond, indemnity, and recovery work.
