Job Title

Nature of Work

The purpose of the class is to assist with electric line maintenance or installation. The class is responsible for loading and delivering materials, traffic control, setting up equipment, technical or manual support tasks, and logs or routine reports. The class works according to some procedures; decides how and when to do things under general supervision. This is a progressive classification leading to an Electric Line Technician Apprentice classification which is required to move forward when a position opens.

Essential Job Functions

Prepares vehicles by inspecting and performing minor service; reports malfunctions to supervisor.

Gathers and loads job materials, tools, or other supplies and delivers to job site.

Maintains traffic control and insures vehicle and pedestrian safety procedures are observed.

Sets up equipment such as trucks, outriggers, trailers or other equipment.

Operates line maintenance or installation equipment as directed.

Performs support tasks such as stripping wire, digging, moving equipment, and other.

Completes work logs or routine reports and performs minor office work.

Complete a pole climbing school or program.

Minimum Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED.

Knowledge of basic algebra.

Experience associated with a Lineman Boot Camp is preferred.

This position is an entry level position and the employee will receive on the job training. Being an entry level position, the person accepting this position or holding this position understands that he/she will be eligible for promotion and understands that promoting into an Electric Line Technician Apprentice position is a condition of employment as positions become available.

Requires a valid State of Florida Class A temporary permit for CDL and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. At the end of the six (6) months' probation period, employee must take and pass the exam required for possession of a Florida Class A CDL.

Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

Must be comfortable with working from heights; poles, structures and aerial lifts.

Must be available for on call status/assignments. Must live within 20-mile radius of the City Limits of Leesburg.

All employees may elect to tax defer an amount allowed by the IRS to a 457 deferred compensation account Life Insurance: $50,000.00 policy - 50% at age 70 for general employees, police and fire - 100% premium paid. Bereavement Leave: 24 hours of leave with pay. Holidays: 11 paid holidays. PTO Sell Back program: Employees are eligible to sell PTO time back to the City, a maximum of 2 times per fiscal year for a total of 160 hours. Employees can only sell back as much PTO time as they have actually used in the previous 12 months. Employees covered by a CBA may sell time a maximum established by their written bargaining agreement. Computer Purchase: The City will finance the employee's purchase of an approved computer system up to $1,000.00. Total of loan divided by 39 payroll deductions. Fitness Programs: The City will pay 50% payment of the monthly fee for the employee and spouse for one fitness center each. Participating centers are: Not the Norm Crossfit, Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness, and Infinity Fitness. Safety Shoes: The City will pay up to $150.00 per year for the cost of one pair of approved safety shoes/boots for those positions requiring safety shoes/boots.
