Position Overview The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) and the Department of Geology at the University of Georgia are hiring a Post‑Doctoral Associate for a 1‑year renewable position (up to 4 years). The role focuses on developing a regional groundwater model for southeast and coastal Georgia, running future climate and development scenarios, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, and other scientists. Job Details Title: Post‑Doctoral Associate – Woodson Department: IRIS – Resilient Infrastructure Systems & Department of Geology Location: Athens, Georgia Employment Type: Employee, FTE 1.00, Exempt Salary: $55,000 – $75,000, commensurate with experience Start Date: 01/02/2025 Responsibilities (50%) Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, and scientists to develop and implement research on the economic, ecological, and social impacts of groundwater in the Georgia coastal region. Develop a regional groundwater model for southeast and coastal Georgia and run future climate and development scenarios. Co‑author journal manuscripts, research reports, factsheets, and other written or video materials. Communicate regularly and promptly with project PIs regarding research progress and laboratory operations. Responsibilities (15%) Participate in community outreach activities along the Georgia coastal region. Responsibilities (10%) Support or mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Qualifications A PhD in economics, civil, environmental engineering, or a related field, completed by January 2025. Experience modeling with Visual ModFlow Flex 8 or other ModFlow versions. Expertise in geospatial methods, data analysis, and visualization. Experience working on interdisciplinary teams. Expertise in coupled human‑environment systems and a record of publishing in peer‑reviewed journals; experience communicating to diverse audiences. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong analytical and quantitative skills related to numerical modeling of groundwater flows; strong oral and written communication skills.
