JOB SUMMARYThe Nurse Practitioner at Worcester County Detention, Snow Hill, MD, specializes in the ambulatory care of inmate patients while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Nurse Practitioners work with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. 8 hours a weekCorrectional Nurses provide care to inmate patients to promote & improve their overall health utilizing the nursing process in triage, professional training and various resources in accordance with regulatory agencies and established guidelines. The inmate patient population often generally has not had consistent access to healthcare prior to their incarceration. This provides an opportunity for nurses to see and care for an interesting variety of health concerns from minor ailments to major and atypical conditions.ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONSProvides a positive and professional representation of CFG Health Systems, LLC.Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting documentation, and prevention.Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.Adheres to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.Completes required orientation as directed by facilityFollows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignmentFollows facility and CFG Health Systems Occurrence ProtocolUpholds HIPAA and PREA regulationsPunctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shiftsMaintains security clearance for the assigned facilityJOB RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms and documents medical evaluations on inmate patients of the assigned correctional facility consistent with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) standards of care, NJ 10-A, American Correctional Association (ACA) and Performance Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS) as appropriate.Assesses patients’ mental and physical status based on the presenting symptoms and complaints.Construct treatment plans for inmate patients incorporating ways to address the patients’ problems and enhance patients’ strengths, involve patients in their development, and include relapse prevention risk management strategies.Writes prescriptions for medications as allowed by state regulations and under the guidelines of the approved CFG formulary.Monitors patients’ medicationCollaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, or nursing staff to develop, implement, or evaluate treatment plans.Documents patients’ medical histories, physical assessment results, discharge summaries, and transfer orders.Maintain effective working relationships with health care professionals and others.Job RequirementsEducation & LicensureGraduate of an accredited school of nursingCurrent, unrestricted RN license in the state of practice (maintain copy on file)Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of practiceCurrent DEA, CDS, and DEA-X licensesExperienceMinimum 2 years of direct patient care as a Nurse Practitioner preferredSkills & CompetenciesStrong critical thinking, clinical assessment, and decision-making skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a teamAssertive, empathetic, and objective in-patient careExcellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skillsBasic computer proficiency and accurate electronic documentation skillsAbility to command respect and confidence of inmates and staffActive Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationFunctional DemandsAbility to pass required health and screening testsAvailability for nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties as requiredOrganizational ExpectationsRepresent CFG Health Systems professionally and positivelyPromote a culture of safety for patients and staff through proper reporting and preventionMaintain competency and stay current with nursing standards, trends, and best practicesAdhere to infection control, medication administration, and controlled substance protocolsParticipating in quality
