Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems. The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment. This role assists patients in transitioning through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on the nursing practice act, each patient's condition, and employee competencies. The RN is utilized in inpatient and outpatient departments with 24X7 staffing, including departments with on-call staffing on off shifts. Essential functions of this role include conducting accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards and identifying and prioritizing patient and family needs. The RN develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing plan of care, modifying plans as necessary to meet clinical outcomes. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and supports evidence-based practice changes. The RN creates a compassionate and supportive environment for patients, families, and staff. The RN develops therapeutic relationships while managing emotional and physical pain to promote comfort and healing. The RN incorporates patients' and families' unique differences into individualized plans of care. The RN preserves and protects patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights. Active collaboration with colleagues and community members helps develop and implement an integrated plan of care. The RN uses strategies and available resources for problem-solving and recognizes the importance of safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in planning patient care. Professionalism is paramount, and the RN participates in shared governance and decision-making processes. The RN commits to ongoing professional growth through continuing education and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues. A strong knowledge of nursing and patient care standards is necessary. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards related to nursing care is required. The RN must possess an understanding of medical terminology and principles of health promotion and disease prevention. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for this role. The ability to observe and communicate changes in medical conditions is crucial. The RN provides age-specific, quality, patient-centered care, ensuring sensitivity and respect for diverse human experiences. General computer skills, including electronic medical documentation, are needed for this position.
