Role Overview

The Warehouse Apprentice is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of raw and finished meat products within a USDA FSIS-inspected and BRC-certified facility. This includes receiving, storage, order picking, and outbound shipping while maintaining strict food safety, sanitation, and traceability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Product Handling & Movement:
• • Load/unload deliveries and transfer products to designated areas.
  • Stage items for production and outbound orders based on schedule.
  • Rotate inventory using FIFO/FEFO practices.
  • Handle carcasses, boxed meat, and packaging with care and compliance.
• Food Safety & Compliance:
• • Comply with USDA FSIS and BRC requirements.
  • Ensure proper temperature controls and product segregation.
  • Assist with mock recalls and traceability exercises.
• Sanitation & Maintenance:
• • Maintain clean and organized warehouses and cold storage.
  • Report issues or damage immediately.
  • Perform routine cleaning of racks, coolers, and equipment.
• Documentation & Record Keeping:
• • Log receiving, shipping, and movement data accurately.
  • Record temperatures and complete required food safety logs.
  • Use warehouse management software or tracking systems (e.g., BITs, Prism).
• Teamwork & Safety:
• • Follow all plant safety protocols and use appropriate PPE.
  • Support team members and communicate effectively with other departments.
  • Participate in safety training and emergency drills.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1+ year warehouse or cold storage experience (meat/food industry preferred).
• Forklift certified or ability to be certified within 30 days.
• Ability to read and understand SOPs and documentation in English.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to food safety.

Physical Requirements:

• Lift up to 60 lbs regularly.
• Work in cold environments (34&degree;F and below) for extended periods.
• Stand, walk, and operate equipment for 8–12 hours/day.
• Use PPE including gloves, rubber boots, and hairnets.
