Ensures content reflects strong storytelling, sound editorial judgment, and meets public media standards of accuracy, fairness, and community service. This role works independently and collaboratively to produce compelling visual and written stories that reflect community perspectives and issues of local significance. WGCU is Southwest Florida’s source for PBS and NPR. A member-supported service of Florida Gulf Coast University, WGCU provides educational programming that inspires, informs and engages our community. Serving all or part of 12 counties in south and Southwest Florida, with five distinct digital TV channels, two FM radio channels, two HD radio channels, and multiple websites, WGCU delivers national and international programming, and develops, produces and delivers relevant, informative and educational local programs to the region. If you thrive in an environment of innovation, accountability and mutual respect, you will find a good home here.**Job Description****Typical duties include but are not limited to:*** Pitch, research, report, and produce news and feature stories for television, web, and social platforms* Conduct on-camera field or studio interviews, through ongoing inquiries with newsmakers and community figures on a local, state, national and international level.* Provide accurate, balanced, and ethical coverage consistent with public media standards* Shoot video and audio in the field using professional cameras and mobile equipment* Edit video packages, digital shorts, and audio segments using non‐linear editing software* Write scripts, web articles, headlines, captions, and social media copy* Record voice‐overs and appear on camera as needed* Engage audiences through clear, accessible storytelling and community‐centered coverage.* Work closely with producers, editors, hosts, and technical staff on daily and long‐term projects* Participate in editorial meetings and contribute story ideas regularly* Support special coverage, live events, and station initiatives as assigned* Cultivate and maintain news sources.* Maintain data and information collection through updates to contact lists, electronic and hard-copy files of archived work, and directories of external materials in accordance with Florida’s public records laws and the federal Freedom of Information Act.* Correspond with public inquiries regarding news stories that have been reported on WGCU and National Public Radio.* Adhere to journalistic standards and ethics as defined by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Radio-Television News Directors Association.* Adhere to the PBS & NPR Code of Ethics and public media editorial standards and practices.****Other Duties:***** Participate in on-air fundraising campaigns and WGCU Public Media special events.* Perform other job-related duties as assigned.**Additional Job Description****Minimum Requirements for Multimedia Journalist I:*** This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate are of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.* Experience in broadcast news, reporting or relevant field.* Superior on-air voice quality and network quality hosting.* Valid driver’s license.* Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.**Minimum Requirements for Multimedia Journalist II:*** This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.* Experience in broadcast news, reporting or relevant field.* Superior on-air voice quality and network quality hosting.* Valid driver’s license.* Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.****Preferred Qualifications:***** Master's Degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.* Demonstrated multimedia production experience.* Experience in public media or nonprofit journalism.* On‐camera reporting experience.* Knowledge of the local community and regional issues.* Bilingual or multilingual skills.****Knowledge, Skills & Abilities***** Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity.* Demonstrate a track record of reliability, meeting goals and deadlines, and holding oneself accountable.* Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.* Demonstrate knowledge of journalism ethics, practices and standards.* Skilled in quality news writing, reporting, digital recording, and post-production.* Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.* Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.* Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and the general public.* Ability to collect, analyze, organize and present information in a meaningful manner.**Institutional Values & Behavioral Expectation**In this role, the successful candidate will be expected to:* Seek out new approaches to improve outcomes;
