Job Summary:
As a Buyer, you will be accountable for the end-to-end procurement and planning of materials, components, equipment, supplies, and services critical to operational success. Working under indirect supervision, you’ll ensure scheduled deliveries align with quality standards and budget expectations. This role blends strategic sourcing, vendor management, and cross-functional collaboration to support production needs and company objectives. You’ll also play a key role in continuous improvement initiatives and uphold ethical purchasing practices.
What you will do:
Procure goods and services using JIT, blanket POs, and rescheduling strategies
Analyze ERP/MRP data and production schedules to determine material needs
Evaluate supplier bids based on total cost of ownership
Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and lead times with suppliers
Create, amend, and manage purchase orders
Maintain accurate supplier and material records
Resolve delivery and invoicing issues with Receiving and Finance
Track and report procurement and supply chain metrics
Support sourcing projects, service design, and product lifecycle initiatives
Collaborate with internal teams on continuous improvement and Lean efforts
Uphold ethical standards in all purchasing activities
Perform other duties as assigned

Specialized Skills:
Technical Buyer
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and BOMs
Experience managing RFQs for technical components
Understanding with electromechanical, electronic, and precision mechanical components
Experience sourcing custom and off-the-shelf parts for regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, medical devices, defense)
Familiarity in technical supplier qualification, including capability audits and compliance assessments
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, injection molding, PCB assembly, and surface treatments
Ability to collaborate with engineering to align procurement with design intent and product lifecycle
Strong grasp of material specifications, tolerances, and certifications (e.g., ITAR and AS9100)
Knowledge of obsolescence management and alternate part sourcing strategies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience/certification)
Minimum 5 years of purchasing/planning experience in manufacturing
Certifications like CSCP, CPIM, or CPSM are a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements:
Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person, over the telephone, and in office setting.
Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly in person, over the telephone, and on the production floor.
Vision: Visual acuity Eyesight 20/25 with or without correction. Will be required to take and pass a color blindness test for visual inspections. Work on computer for long periods of time.
Other: May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting co-workers when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite duties. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, and standing, walking, squatting, sitting, and looking at a computer screen for long periods at a time.

Pay Range $65,000 - $80,000
