Traveling Electrician - UPS & Transfer Switch Specialist

About This RoleHands-on traveling electrician role based out of Arlington, VA installing, commissioning, and maintaining UPS systems and transfer switches from multiple manufacturers. You'll be on the road to customer sites across the U.S. (domestic travel 50-75%) to keep critical power systems running. This is field work: install wiring and raceways, set and commission UPS and transfer switch systems, troubleshoot faults, perform load testing and preventative maintenance, and complete site reports. Expect to work independently on job sites and coordinate with facility contacts to ensure uptime and reliability.What You'll DoInstall, wire, and commission UPS systems and automatic/manual transfer switches from various manufacturersPerform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on PDUs, transformers, switchgear and standby/emergency power systemsBend conduit, install raceways, run power feeders and branch circuits, and mount racks/equipment to codeConduct load testing, commissioning checks, insulation/resistance tests, and complete as-built documentation and test reportsCoordinate on-site work with facility contacts, manage time and materials, and keep clear service logsTravel domestically 50%-75%; work independently at customer sites and support occasional overnight assignmentsWhat We're Looking For3+ years commercial/industrial electrician or electronics technician experience working on UPS, transfer switches, or standby powerProven conduit bending, raceway installation, and power distribution wiring skillsExperience with transformers, PDUs, switchgear, and standby/emergency system installation and maintenanceStrong commissioning and troubleshooting skills using multimeters, meggers, clamp meters and test loadsAbility to read electrical prints, perform branch circuit and feeder load calculations, and follow wiring diagramsWillingness and ability to travel 50%-75% domestically; valid driver's license requiredQualificationsCPR, AED, and First Aid certificationOSHA 10 hour certification (required)High school diploma or GED; journeyman ticket or equivalent preferredValid U.S. driver's license and clean driving recordAble to pass background check and pre-employment drug screenProficient English for site communication and documentationWhat We OfferPaid travel time, per diem for overnight travel, and mileage reimbursementOvertime pay for extended shifts and emergency calloutsHealth insurance options (medical, dental, vision) and retirement plan accessPaid time off and holiday payTool allowance or reimbursement and access to training for manufacturer certificationsStable, steady travel assignments with clear schedules and dispatch supportReady to Apply?Create your Skillit profile and let Sam, your AI assistant, connect you with top contractors.Apply NowNot Another Job BoardSkillit connects craft workers directly with contractors hiring for your trade.
