School Year 26/27 Special Education Teacher- Intellectually Impaired/Life Skills Lynn Public Schools Breed Middle School – Lynn, Massachusetts. The city is known for its contemporary public art, historic architecture, thriving downtown cultural district, and abundant public parks, including the scenic Lynn Shore Reservation and the expansive Lynn Woods Reservation. Lynn Public Schools is a linguistically and culturally rich community, with 60% of our students speaking two or more languages. The district serves approximately 17,000 students across 29 school sites. School sites include: 1 Early Childhood Center 17 Elementary Schools 1 Public Separate Day School 3 Middle Schools 2 Comprehensive High Schools 1 Vocational High School 1 Early College High School 1 STEAM Academy (Grades 6-12) 1 Alternative Education Academy (Grades 9-12) 1 TOGETHER Educating and Advancing Multi-Disabled Students Academy (PreK-12) Lynn Public Schools is committed to inclusiveness, shared responsibility, collaborative relationships, high expectations, and lifelong learning, with a goal to honor and celebrate diversity and address the social-emotional needs of every student and family. Position Overview The educator will be the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. The role requires building relationships, excellent communication, and strong content knowledge and teaching strategies. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license in Moderate Disabilities 5-12. SEI Endorsement. Additional content area licensure is encouraged. Understanding of institutional and structural racism, bias, and their impact on underserved communities. Knowledge of current education legislation and regulations. Ability to collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents and to advocate for students. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Experience in an urban district or setting preferred. Ability to meet Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice. Experience working with Emotionally Impaired/Intellectually Impaired students, and willingness to attend Positive Behavior Strategies for Emotionally Impaired Students. Performance Responsibilities Plan and assess curriculum and instruction. Instruct assigned students in designated locations and times. Develop a program of study that meets individual student needs and interests. Deliver culturally responsive instruction and clear learning goals. Provide small‑group instruction to students with moderate to severe cognitive delays. Write and implement goals and objectives consistent with IEPs and provide progress reports. Provide necessary accommodations for learning and testing. Collaborate with staff to support student needs. Use innovative approaches and technology to enhance learning. Create a supportive classroom environment. Promote high standards and expectations for achievement and behavior. Guide learning toward curriculum standards and set clear objectives. Implement district mission, philosophy, and instructional standards. Document student achievements and provide progress reports. Maintain accurate records as required by law and policy. Assist administration in implementing student life policies and develop classroom rules. Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when needed. Maintain professional competence related to the assignment. Attend staff meetings as required. Establish cooperative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Maintain open communication with students, parents, and staff about academic and behavioral progress. Promote equity and celebrate diversity, supporting students with 504 plans and second‑language learners. Maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment. Engage families and community members collaboratively. Use curricula reflecting students’ cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Support students with disabilities in a general education setting. Differentiate learning for second‑language learners. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Terms of Employment As negotiated with Lynn School Committee and Lynn Teachers Union. 180 days per year. Teacher Salary Estimator.
