Retail General Manager

NEW DISPENSARY STORE OPENING in Plano, IL Dutchess Cannabis of Plano, IL is looking to hire a Dispensary General Manager. Candidates will be required to complete a pre‑assigned training period at a designated store within the IL market prior to commencing duties at your assigned location. THE ROLE The General Manager is responsible for the execution of retail store sales, operations, and responsibilities, ensuring consistent, positive, industry‑leading customer experiences and driving profitable top‑line sales. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Recruit, hire, and staff the dispensary by recruiting top talent with a diverse set of skills among candidates. Coach, develop, and maximize the success of all associates. Drive desired behaviors across all roles. Ensure onboarding and continued training and education is delivered. Analyze key business metrics, create action plans, and gain buy‑in from the team. Ensure team communication, leading weekly managers meetings and monthly team meetings. Effectively manage P&L by driving sales growth and managing expense budgets, including deposits and accounts receivable. Direct workforce management activities. Direct inventory activities, resolving all discrepancies in accordance with state law. Oversee operational execution, ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Ensure technology solutions are working and functioning as designed. Implement loss prevention / security policies and practices. Become an expert in cannabis state‑specific rules, regulations, and laws; execute and enforce compliance according to state laws. Develop and drive proactive internal compliance controls and processes. Ensure all employees are up to date on regulatory changes. Foster positive and productive relationships with key regulators, inspectors, and law enforcement personnel. Ensure all required state and company‐sanctioned reports and audits are executed on time. Lead a consistent focus on customer loyalty and create emotionally engaging customer experiences. Ensure visual standards are set in accordance with company direction. Direct the implementation of customer engagement strategies. Coordinate and partner with management to drive the success of promotions and the loyalty program. Oversee and sign off on product buys from wholesale partners. Ensure the website and live menu are up to date and maintained to the brand standard. Lead and champion change and innovation in a fast‑paced environment. Perform other duties as assigned by the Management Team. Supervisory Responsibilities Manage and motivate staff, including hiring, firing, performance management, and recognition duties. Train, direct, and appraise staff. Create daily work schedules for proper employee utilization. Plan and organize workload and staff assignments. Issue written and oral instructions; assign duties and examine work for correctness and compliance with policy and procedures. Competencies Demonstrated success managing single or multiple location(s) P&L responsibility. Knowledge of or willingness to learn state‑specific cannabis laws and regulatory compliance. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills. Expert conflict resolution skills and ability to manage difficult or emotional situations. Treat people with respect, keep commitments, inspire trust, and work with integrity. Observe and adhere to regulatory, safety, and security procedures. Education, Experience, Eligibility, and Training Age 21 years or older. Pass all required background checks. Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four‑year college or university, plus over five years of multi‑location leadership experience or equivalent experience in high‑volume retail sales. Inventory control experience required. Proactive with strong work ethic, attention to detail, and strong communication and leadership skills. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and attend various events as needed.
