Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Full Time Permanent

Overview Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join its Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to patients of all ages in acute, critical care, emergency, and outpatient settings. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, you will assess, plan, and deliver respiratory treatments that support optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and administer therapies such as oxygen, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy, and non-invasive and invasive ventilation support in accordance with provider orders and established protocols. Initiate, manage, and monitor mechanical ventilators, perform ventilator weaning, conduct arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and adjust respiratory care plans based on clinical findings and patient response. Participate in rapid response and code teams, providing airway management and life-support interventions as needed. Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and self-management strategies to promote safety and long-term health. Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic medical record and communicate clearly with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care. Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, adhere to infection prevention and safety standards, and follow all regulatory and hospital policies. Demonstrate compassion, hospitality, and stewardship in every interaction, treating patients, families, and colleagues with respect and dignity. Work in a collaborative environment that supports evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Participate in ongoing professional development, including in-service education, clinical competencies, and specialty certifications. Qualifications Strong critical-thinking and clinical decision-making skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. Comfort with a rotating schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on patient needs. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. Experience in managing a broad range of respiratory care needs across acute, critical care, emergency, and outpatient settings.
