About the Position

Job Title: Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Interventional Radiology/Cardiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (06:30 - 15:00) Experience: Minimum of 1 year in critical care, emergency, cath lab, or interventional radiology License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred (e.g., RCIS, NIH Stroke Scale) - IV certification Description: The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive interventional procedures. This role works collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. The focus is on ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The RN utilizes the nursing process and established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Acts as a patient advocate and directs personnel assigned to them. May be on call for the Interventional Unit as needed. Responsible for reporting to the Unit Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, or RN Team Leader. Essential Job Functions: Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Administer medications as ordered, including anticoagulants, vasoactive agents, contrast, and emergency drugs. Maintain sterile technique and assist with procedures as needed. Anticipate needs of the interventionalist and recognize complications rapidly. Collaborate with the imaging team to address contrast allergies or sensitivities. Participate in discussions regarding appropriate contrast agents. Ensure allergy considerations are communicated during the timeout process. Monitor patients for moderate sedation without engaging in tasks that would compromise assessment. Verify ASA classification and consult anesthesia when appropriate. Provide moderate sedation per protocol and monitor vital signs and hemodynamics. Assist physicians during interventional and catheter-based procedures. Prepare and organize sterile instruments and anticipate physician needs. Document procedural details accurately and communicate real-time findings to the team. Assist with patient preparation and positioning as well as connecting monitoring equipment. Verify allergies and clinical factors in collaboration with the clinical team. Perform patient identification, procedure verification, and timeout processes. Manage supplies and ensure proper inventory in the department. Assist with post-procedure cleanup and preparing the room for the next case. Ensure devices are properly cleaned, charged, and stored. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Evidence of continuing education appropriate for skill level and area of practice preferred. Desired: BSN preferred. At least three years of experience in Interventional Radiology or Cath Lab preferred. Experience with conscious sedation training and monitor role. Ability to provide care for patients' age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial wellbeing. Ability to work with a culturally diverse population is preferred. Bilingual candidates and/or those who speak English and Spanish are preferred.
