Purchasing Specialist

Job Summary The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for sourcing and engaging quality suppliers to align purchasing activities with production operations. This individual will report directly to the Division Supervisor and own the majority of purchasing responsibilities. Attention to detail and the ability to negotiate will allow this person to leverage best practices to keep purchasing in harmony with business activity. The Purchasing Specialist will follow standard work procedures and practices; as well as participate in safe work habits to ensure an efficient and safe working environment. Responsibilities / Tasks Maintain a daily understanding of material requirements based on in-progress and forecasted work as well as customer trends Communicate with Scheduling, Operations, and Sales to stay aligned on demand and purchasing strategy while executing duties Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals and review final offer for goods on an ongoing basis with consideration of supplier lead times (over 300 SKUs) Negotiate and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors and other representatives to purchase the highest quality goods at the lowest possible price, identifying new suppliers as needed Inspect products purchased by Lakeside Plastics from suppliers to monitor supplier performance Keep and maintain records of all inspections/tests completed on products Inform operations of any issues with quality of materials or products Evaluate and monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations Monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends and futures markets Aid in inventory control including monitoring levels, troubleshooting discrepancies, and identifying root‑cause Complete other tasks as assigned Requirements 3 years purchasing experience preferred Associate's degree in supply chain or related field preferred Experience with SAGE100 or similar ERP tool preferred Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as a team Able to perform basic calculations and mathematical figures Able to stand, sit, or move around for long periods of time Must be able to successfully pass a pre‑employment drug test and criminal background check Disclaimer The information contained herein is not intended to be an all‑inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all‑inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
