Director of Operations

What We're Looking For:

Our portfolio company is hiring a Director of Operations to run the business day to day so the founders can focus on strategic execution. You will lead the corporate team and own the operating systems behind our studios, including people operations, recruiting, the call center, inventory and warehouse operations, payroll, facilities, vendors, compliance coordination, and the weekly operating cadence.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will make decisions, solve operating problems directly, and build the people and processes that prevent those problems from returning. You should be comfortable moving between a location issue, a hiring decision, a payroll exception, a vendor choice, and a leadership conversation on the same day.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead day-to-day operations across the studio network, corporate team, call center, scheduling, inventory, and warehouse.

• Own recruiting, performance management, talent reviews, and workforce planning, with the People Lead reporting to you.

• Build and run scorecards, operating reviews, and a weekly accountability cadence for studio partners, regional leaders, and corporate functions.

• Run payroll and back-office administration accurately and on time, including corrections and exception handling.

• Make facilities, vendor, and location-spend decisions within agreed authority limits, then communicate decisions and business impact clearly.

• Coordinate the operational response to labor, compliance, and legal matters by gathering facts, engaging qualified counsel when needed, and bringing the founders a recommendation with clear options.

• Identify recurring operating problems, address the immediate issue, and install a process, owner, and measure that prevents repeat failure.

• Resolve routine operating decisions are resolved at your level, and provide founders with clear updates rather than unresolved problems.

What You Bring:

• Experience leading operations across multiple brick-and-mortar locations, such as a regional, district, multi-unit, or general-management role.

• Direct experience with several of the following: payroll, recruiting, performance management, facilities, vendor management, inventory, scheduling, or call-center operations.

• Evidence that you can lead a team while remaining close enough to the work to diagnose problems and act quickly.

• Sound judgment about when to decide independently, when to gather more information, and when to involve founders or qualified counsel.

• A practical approach to tools, contractors, automation, and AI that improves execution without adding unnecessary headcount.

• Clear written and verbal communication, strong follow-through, and a record of holding teams accountable to measurable standards.

• Ability to meet the role's travel requirements and work effectively from a remote base near a major US airport.

What You’ll Deliver:

• Every location has a current scorecard, a named owner, and a consistent weekly review cadence that runs without founder involvement.

• Inventory is accurate and reconciled, the call center meets its booking targets, scheduling gaps decline, and payroll runs cleanly and on time.

• Open studio-partner and corporate roles move through an active hiring funnel, and performance management improves the quality and consistency of each team.

• Studio-partner and employee turnover decline, weaker locations stabilize against clear operating standards, and location profitability improves.

• New locations open on plan and build toward the target of $20,000 in monthly profit per location once ramped.

• The operating system supports growth from 25 to roughly 40 locations over three years without a decline in quality, contributing to the company's target of approximately $7 million-$8 million in annual EBITDA at 40 or more locations.

Location + Travel:

• This role is remote-based and can be located anywhere in the United States near a major airport. Expect travel of up to 80% to our portfolio company's studio locations, with more travel possible during the first 90 days while you establish accountability systems on site. Travel is expected to settle to a lower steady rate once the weekly operating cadence is established.

• Our locations cluster in Arizona, Texas, and Nevada. Candidates near Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, or Reno are preferred, but proximity to one of these cities is not required.

Compensation

• $140,000-$160,000 base salary

• 30% performance bonus max based on milestones
