Refrigeration Technician

Job Overview

Responsible for inspecting freezer equipment, performing basic maintenance duties for freezers, and defrosting freezers as necessary

Responsibilities

• Routinely inspect freezers and freezer equipment
• Inspect equipment daily
• Evaluate integrity of freezer equipment and determine potential or actual equipment failure
• Report any problems to the maintenance supervisor
• Perform preventative maintenance repairs on the freezers as needed
• Perform basic maintenance duties for freezers as necessary
• Assist in repairs of refrigeration systems, boilers, and hydraulics
• Maintain operational ability and integrity of all freezers
• Conduct shut down and start up operations for freezers according to proper procedures
• Conduct cleaning (defrosting) operations for freezers
• Perform basic preventative maintenance procedures
• Maintain all records and documents
• Responsible for fire sprinkler system for all areas.
• Assist with the training and development of all Refrigeration Personnel
• Update daily compressor room logbooks
• Daily water chemistry for Boilers, RO and Towers, log and correct any issues
• Responsible for maintaining all refrigeration equipment, freeze tunnels, water wells, water storage and filtering, boilers/steam piping, central hydraulic system, and forklift/pallet jacks
• Responsible for keeping the refrigeration/forklift/battery rooms clean and always organized
• Follow all food safety (GMP) and general safety guidelines
• Follow all lock-out/tag-out procedures for all equipment
• Complete other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

• Lift up to 50 pounds
• Frequently work in an extremely cold environment
• Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, ammonia systems, hydraulics, boilers, and basic freezer equipment
• Basic knowledge of plant operations and equipment
• Electrical/electronic/PLC trouble shooting and repair ability
• One year of previous refrigeration experience
