NJOFS is a modern, patient-focused Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practice seeking a skilled and motivated Surgical/Dental Assistant to join our growing team. Our practice is committed to providing the highest level of surgical care in a professional, supportive, and team-oriented environment.

We are looking for an assistant with 1–3 years of oral surgery experience preferred , although experienced general dental assistants who are motivated to learn oral surgery are encouraged to apply.

Position Overview
The Surgical/Dental Assistant will work closely with the oral surgeon and clinical team to assist with outpatient oral surgery procedures , patient care, and clinical operations. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced surgical environment, and is comfortable working in a team setting.
This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to anticipate the surgeon’s needs during procedures, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and infection control.
Responsibilities
Clinical & Surgical Assistance
  • Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures including:
    • Wisdom teeth extractions
    • Dental implant placement
    • Bone grafting
    • Surgical extractions
    • Cosmetic surgery procedures
    • Other oral surgical procedures
  • Prepare and maintain the surgical operatory before and after procedures
  • Maintain sterile field and adhere to strict infection control protocols
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and provide efficient chairside assistance
  • Assist with patient monitoring and support during procedures
  • Take radiographs (panoramic, CBCT, and intraoral imaging when applicable)
Patient Care
  • Prepare patients for surgery and review medical history
  • Provide clear and compassionate pre-operative and post-operative instructions
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout treatment
  • Support anxious patients with a calm and reassuring demeanor
  • Assist with post-operative follow-up care when necessary
Clinical Operations
  • Sterilization of instruments and maintenance of sterilization logs
  • Preparation of surgical trays and supplies
  • Maintain proper inventory of clinical materials
  • Ensure operatories are fully stocked and organized
  • Follow OSHA, CDC, and HIPAA compliance standards
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of Dental or Oral Surgery assisting experience
  • Experience assisting with:
    • Wisdom teeth extractions
    • Dental implant surgery
    • IV sedation procedures
Minimum Qualifications
  • Dental assisting experience in a general dental practice
  • X-ray certification (required)
  • CPR/BLS certification (required. We will provide training annually)
  • Knowledge of dental instruments and clinical procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional demeanor and strong work ethic
Additional Qualifications (Preferred but Not Required)
  • Oral surgery experience
  • Sedation monitoring experience
  • Experience with digital radiography and CBCT imaging
  • Experience with dental software systems
Compensation
  • $24 – $30 per hour , based on experience and qualifications

Schedule
