Seasonal Retail Associate

Job Summary Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is seeking a Seasonal Retail Associate to work approximately 25 hours per week from April through September 2026 at our two WHOI store locations in Woods Hole, MA. In this role, the Seasonal Retail Associate will support day-to-day store operations, helping to ensure both locations run smoothly. This position is a temporary (seasonal), casual, non-exempt position, and is eligible for casual benefits. Weekly hours may vary based on business volume and store needs. Job Description ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES Customer Service/Retail Operations: Provide informative and accurate information about WHOI and WHOI Store merchandise to all visitors. Sell merchandise in our brick-and-mortar locations and process online orders (picking, packing, & shipping). Restock, fold, price, and help maintain accurate inventories. Clean displays and exhibits and other tasks as directed. Independently open and close the stores as needed. Able to work a flexible schedule, including some holidays and weekends. Store hours vary throughout the season, and shifts range from 4 hours to 6.5 hours per day. Able to take direction with strong attention to detail. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Experience working with the public in a retail environment preferred. Familiarity with retail POS systems and operations is a plus. Familiarity with WHOI, Woods Hole and the vicinity is a plus Additional Job Requirements This role may involve physical activities such as lifting and carrying items up to 25–30 pounds, as well as extended periods of standing or walking. Additional tasks may include kneeling, bending, stooping, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching above or below shoulder level, along with the use of hands for both basic and fine motor tasks. The position may also require visual abilities (including close, distance, and peripheral vision, and the ability to distinguish basic colors), as well as communication and collaboration with others in a shared workspace. Some exposure to dust or other minor irritants may occur. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this role. ---------------------------------------------- Hourly Rate: $16.31-20.90 per hour The hourly rate provided for this position reflects the set base pay for new hires. Annual compensation will be based on this hourly rate and the number of hours worked, in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. In addition to hourly pay, eligible employees may also receive a casual benefits package.
