Position Summary

Support residents and the nursing team while completing a facility-sponsored Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification program. The employee begins as a Hospitality Aide, providing nonclinical support, and progresses to supervised nursing assistant duties as training, competency verification, registration, and facility authorization permit. The goal is successful CNA certification and transition to a full-time CNA role.

Essential Hospitality Responsibilities

• Greet residents, families, and visitors with courtesy; support a welcoming and respectful environment.

• Provide companionship, assist with activities, and help residents access personal items and nonclinical services within assigned duties.

• Stock supplies and linens, organize resident areas, and help maintain a clean, orderly environment as assigned.

• Communicate resident requests promptly to nursing staff and immediately report changes, hazards, or concerns.

• Protect resident privacy, dignity, choice, and confidentiality. Follow infection prevention, hand hygiene, and safety procedures.

• Perform only duties authorized for the employee’s current role. Do not independently provide clinical care or perform tasks requiring training or credentials that have not been obtained.

Responsibilities During Nursing Assistant Training

• Attend and successfully participate in 35 hours of classroom instruction, 33 hours of skills lab training, and 40 hours of clinical training.

• Practice assigned resident care skills under required instructor or licensed nursing supervision and follow resident care plans.

• As training and authorization permit, assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, meals, mobility, positioning, and other activities of daily living.

• Use approved safety practices and equipment; report observations and document assigned care accurately as instructed.

• Complete assignments and competency evaluations, accept feedback, and promptly communicate attendance or learning concerns.

Qualifications and Expectations

• Interest in becoming a CNA and providing compassionate care to older adults and residents with varied care needs. CNA certification is not required at initial hire.

• Ability to communicate respectfully, follow instructions, work as part of a team, and maintain reliable attendance.

• Ability to meet program admission requirements and applicable facility employment and screening requirements.

• Complete the Nursing Assistant Registered (NAR) application before the first day of class, with facility assistance, and maintain the credentials required for assigned duties.

• Register for the CNA examination, complete applicable certification requirements, and provide verification of the Washington State CNA credential.

• Commit to one year of full-time employment following CNA certification, as described in the separate CNA Certification Program Agreement. Full-time status is defined by facility policy.

Compensation and Program Support

• Hospitality Aide shifts: $17.50 per hour.

• Clinical training: $19.00 per hour for the scheduled 40 clinical hours.

• Upon passing the CNA examination and verification of the CNA credential: $22.00 per hour, effective the first full pay period following verification.

• Facility sponsorship includes the CNA course and payment of the NAR application fee and CNA certification application fee, each listed as $85 in the program agreement.

The employee is responsible for examination registration and the examination fee, estimated at $155 for the combined written and skills examination in the program agreement.

Classroom and skills lab compensation arrangements and any sponsorship repayment terms are addressed in the separate program agreement, subject to applicable law. Any work as an NAR while certification is pending requires facility approval and compliance with applicable credential and timing requirements.

Schedule and Work Environment

Training attendance is required, and the facility coordinates clinical scheduling. Hospitality Aide shifts may be available outside class hours, including weekends, depending on facility needs. Work takes place in a skilled nursing facility and involves frequent standing, walking, reaching, and bending. Authorized resident care may involve assisting with mobility and positioning using appropriate equipment and staff assistance. Essential functions must be performed safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

This job description outlines the position’s primary responsibilities and may be updated to meet facility needs within the employee’s training and authorized role. It does not replace the CNA Certification Program Agreement or alter at-will employment. Program completion does not guarantee continued employment.
