General Manager

A General Manager must be committed to inspiring our team, helping our customers succeed, and growing our business with integrity. The role requires professional-level sales and management skills, an understanding of store systems, automotive systems, and parts knowledge, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and assist with DIY services. The General Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining professional customer relationships, driving program growth, and ensuring achievement of financial metrics while maintaining service and appearance standards. The position is exempt and requires a minimum of 50‑55 hours per week, including rotating nights, weekends, and 11‑hour shifts. The schedule is set to meet business needs. Primary Responsibilities Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives Manage and grow professional customer relationships and sales, holding the team accountable to executing customer action plans Oversee selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store team members Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards Coach all team members to deliver on customer expectations, both DIY and professional Perform on‑duty responsibilities, including floor/phone management, task assignment, safety, and open/close duties Lead change management initiatives Embrace diversity and foster a respectful environment for customers and team members Secondary Responsibilities Provide DIY service, including battery installation, testing and wiper installation Assist district or regional functions as requested Success Factors Friendly communication Skill in locating and stocking parts Safety knowledge and practices Potential to become ASE P2 certified or be ASE ready equivalent Ability to execute and train on project and product quality recommendations Advanced parts lookup and sourcing skills Proficiency with special orders and alternative sourcing Capability to train on all store operational processes and use of diagnostic equipment for DIY services Competence in operating inventory systems and store equipment Skill in using POS and parts lookup systems Ability to review and analyze P&L statements Competence in recruiting, selecting, hiring, and developing quality team members Ability to build and grow relationships with professional customers Essential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a General Manager Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred Fluency in English; Spanish a plus; strong communication skills with customers, peers, and management Effective use of Microsoft Office; Word and Excel required, PowerPoint preferred Ability to calculate discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percentages Competence in reviewing and analyzing business reports, including P&L statements Capacity to hold others accountable, inspect work quality, and provide inspiring feedback Willingness to work a mix of days, evenings, and weekends as necessary Prior Experience that Sets a General Manager up for Success 2–3 years of experience managing a team of 10–20 members in a fast‑paced retail environment Proven financial and business acumen with successful profitability management Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations High school diploma or GED; a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. ASE Certification Preferred, but Not Required ASE certification is preferred but not mandatory. Physical Demands The role requires predominant standing or walking, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Tasks include talking and hearing, handling, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are required. Work Environment Work is primarily indoors but may include occasional outdoor exposure to weather. Employees may encounter moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, chemicals, electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate.
