Overview

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks a commercial vehicle technician for work in the Sumter, SC region/area. Successful candidate will possess demonstrated experience in mechanical support of a Commercial or Military Fleet, with preference given to experience maintaining & repairing construction-type vehicles/equipment.

Basic requirements include:

*Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License

*High School Diploma or Equivalent

*Diesel/Auto Certification from Technical / Vocational / Military program -OR- any combination of education & experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.

*Ability & willingness, without special arrangements, to travel away from home on short notice in support of Field Operations.

Prior ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification (Tests T1-T8) is preferred but not required. Active employees may be offered opportunity to obtain ASE Certification and will be required to maintain certification in CPR, First Aid and Forklift Operation.

Field/Shop Mechanic (Gasoline/Diesel/Hydraulic) is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel engines and related systems, ensuring that vehicles or equipment operate efficiently and safely. This role requires diagnosing mechanical problems, conducting preventative maintenance, and performing repairs to ensure optimal performance of diesel-powered vehicles and machinery.

Duties/Responsibilities subject to but not limited to

1. Maintenance and Repairs:

2. Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems and related components, including transmission, exhaust, brakes, and fuel systems.

3. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.

4. Repair or replace malfunctioning parts, such as belts, hoses, pumps, and injectors.

5. Repair booms consistent with Bucket and Digger Trucks.

6. Repair Trailers, pulling equipment, Tracked Equipment (Various) and other equipment utilized to build the power grid.

7. Troubleshooting:

8. Identify mechanical problems through diagnostic tests and visual inspections.

9. Troubleshoot issues with engines, electrical systems, air conditioning, and other mechanical systems in diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.

10. Troubleshooting booms with hydraulic systems, electrical components and within the work environment of mother nature.

11. Preventative Maintenance:

12. Conduct regular preventative maintenance to prevent breakdowns and extend the lifespan of diesel engines and machinery.

13. Document proper records of maintenance schedules and repairs performed.

14. Preventative Maintenance on all equipment Tracked and wheeled, that includes your company issued service truck

15. Parts Management:

16. Order and maintain inventory of necessary parts for equipment you are assigned on service request.

17. Ensure that all repairs and replacements use high-quality, durable parts. Returning any core charges to vendors.

18. Customer Service:

19. Work closely with Equipment Service Coordinator’s to ensure status of equipment when assigned to make repairs.

20. Report any emergencies such as man stuck in Bucket or fluid spills to your supervisor and fleet management.

21. Communicate with customers (internal/Crews) to explain necessary repairs or services.

22. Provide accurate timelines for repairs and prior approval for maintenance costs.

23. Safety and Compliance:

24. Follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations when working with tools and equipment.

25. Follow the FMCSA regulations while driving and repairing equipment.

26. Complete JTSA for the day and if on job site review and sign off on JTSA with crew.

27. Ensure that all repairs meet industry standards and comply with environmental regulations.

28. Documentation and Reporting:

29. Keep accurate records of services performed, parts used, and work completed. Records are kept in the software system. (Mobile Frame)

30. Maintain clear documentation for any work performed, including warranty work or manufacturer recommendations.

31. Perform and document Pre and Post Trip

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; formal training in diesel mechanics or a related field

• Skilled in using computers and diagnostic software programs.

• Experience in diesel engines, articulating booms (Buckets and Diggers), and mechanical systems.

• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Good communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical individuals.

• Valid CDL (preferred) or driver's license with clean driving record and ability to operate various vehicles and equipment.

• Physical coordination necessary to perform skilled movements involved in repair.

• Ability to exert physical effort necessary for moderate to heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling as well as lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds.
