Operating with a lean team of eight staff and contractors, and raising $2 million annually, we partner with a 12-member board and five departments to drive research, advocacy, and patient engagement. As awareness of post-infection illnesses surges, Solve M.E. stands at the forefront—amplifying the voices of 9 million Americans and accelerating scientific discovery. Immunology breakthroughs and heightened public focus on Long Covid have created a tipping point. With a strategic research budget of $550,000 and the Ramsay and Catalyst Awards ready for renewal, Solve M.E. can turn early-stage insights into clinical progress. This is a unique moment to reshape the field’s research trajectory, strengthen patient-centered collaborations, and cement Solve M.E. as the premier funding authority in infection-associated chronic conditions. Scope & Impact Set the vision and priorities for Solve M.E.’s $550,000 research portfolio, directing funds to high-impact translational projects. Lead the full lifecycle of the Ramsay and Catalyst Awards—issuing calls for proposals, managing peer review, and making final funding decisions. Chair the Research Advisory Council and Scientific Committees, synthesizing their guidance into our strategic roadmap. Expand Solve’s network across academia, biotech, pharma, government, and industry to catalyze co-investments and collaborative studies. Serve as Solve M.E.’s primary representative at major conferences and roundtables, supported by a dedicated travel budget. Collaborate with Development, Communications, and Advocacy teams to align research priorities with donor strategies and public narratives. Success Metrics & Outcomes Within 6–12 months, you will relaunch a revitalized Ramsay Awards cycle, reform the Research Advisory Council, and co-create a 2024–2026 research vision with the CEO and Board. By 18–24 months, you will deploy at least $250,000 in grants to leading scientific teams, plan a major field convening, and secure three new academic–industry partnerships that amplify Solve’s grantmaking. Qualifications Ideal Candidate Profile Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent advanced degree in biomedical or clinical research preferred. Minimum 10 years of leadership in research strategy, translational science, or drug development. Proven track record managing scientific funding initiatives, including peer-review processes and full grant cycles. Established network within academic, biotech, or pharmaceutical sectors; experience in ME/CFS, Long Covid, or related fields is highly desirable. Exceptional communicator able to engage scientific, donor, and patient audiences with clarity and empathy. Highly self-directed, collaborative, and effective in a fully remote, agile nonprofit environment. Strategic, mission-driven mindset with a passion for patient engagement; personal connection to infection-associated chronic illness is a plus. Potential signing bonus or performance-based incentive at 6-month review.
