Summary About the Position: This position is located in Bassett Army Community Hospital at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change. - Independently perform a wide variety of complex diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury.
- Utilize diagnostic two-dimensional imaging, spectral Doppler analysis, color and power Doppler, angio techniques, and real-time ultrasound imaging.
- Responsible for identifying abnormalities within the body and providing accurate ultrasound imaging documentation as medical proof of abnormal findings.
- Analyze sonographic findings to distinguish between normal and pathological conditions.
- Assist radiologists and medical officers with complex or invasive diagnostic procedures, including needle biopsies, aspirations, sonohysterograms, and renal biopsy guidance.
- Identify critical or unexpected findings requiring immediate physician notification and recognizes situations that require direct, real-time observation of the examination by the radiologist or obstetrician facilitating physician.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
