Summary/Objective

Supervise the repair and maintenance of the department fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Essential Job Duties

• Supervise shop technicians (7) and activities ensuring equipment repairs and maintenance are provided in a timely manner.
• Monitor employee goals and objectives, performing annual performance reviews.
• Create work schedules, approve timecards, invoices and purchasing card reimbursement requests.
• Provide training on proper safety and equipment operating procedures.
• Review fleet maintenance and supply budgets making recommendations to ensure financial accountability.
• Ensure routine maintenance and inspections are completed.
• Provide technical advice to assist with repairs and procure the equipment needed, parts, and supplies.
• Communicate with internal and external parties regarding maintenance needs and project status, by phone, email and in-person discussions.
• Procure supplies and parts, maintaining purchasing logs and submit for payment.
• Generate property control reports to ensure that all new, returned, and loaner vehicles and equipment, are assigned and tracked properly.
• Assist with preparation and processing of surplus property.

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED/HiSet required.
• Seven (7) years of experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance work with two (2) or more years in a supervisory capacity.
• Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.
• Must be able to obtain a Missouri Boating Safety Certification Card within 6 months of employment.
• Missouri State Inspector Certification.
• Forklift Certification.
• Must obtain and maintain Missouri State Motor Vehicle Inspection Certification within 6 months of employment. Department will pay for the Certification.
• Must obtain and maintain a Class A CDL within 6 months of employment. Department may pay as needed.

• Knowledge of auto, truck, heavy equipment, marine, welding and fabrication.

Work Environment

• May be subject to exposure to mechanical oils, fumes or airborne particles and work near moving mechanical parts.
• Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities

• Frequently operate tools and heavy equipment safely.
• Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, and precise hand-eye coordination.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds or more.
• Concentrated attention is required at all times.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes

This position has been determined to be Exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must agree to accept compensatory time in lieu of cash payments in accordance with the Department's Compensatory Time Off and Overtime Policy.

Salaried and hourly employees are expected to use a mobile device-cellular phone for Department business, as needed.
