OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Providespractice based coaching for Head Start/ Early Head Start teachers, TeacherAssistants, Home Based Visitors and Family Child Care Providers. Conductsobservations, models, provides feedback, discusses analysis of child outcomesdata and provides coaching/mentoring for teaching staff to improveteacher-child interactions and child outcomes towards school readiness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Provides initial and ongoing training and technical assistance to identified teaching staff and Center Directors regarding program philosophy, policies, procedures, curriculum and other topics as requested or assigned to ensure the uniform delivery of quality services.
- Assists and/or develops and updates procedures for the instructional outcomes, curriculum implementation, child assessment and cultural and linguistic responsiveness.
- Maintains reliability in the CLASS assessment Tool. Designs classroom assessment plans for ongoing program improvement. Responsible for analyzing data from the CLASS observation tool and support staff professional development through staff trainings designed to improve the use of evidence-based teaching practices.
- Collaborates with the Manager, ECE and field staff, assists in the developing and evaluating program goals and objectives in the area of Early Childhood Education and School Readiness Goals.
- Monitors the implementation of a developmentally and linguistically appropriate approach to child development and education. Monitors and documents provisions and progressions in the area of Early Childhood Education Outcomes and School Readiness.
- Designs and implements staff trainings to address continuous improvement in child readiness outcomes based on data collected from classrooms, current research and to ensure comprehensive programming.
- Provides input and recommendations on staff performance to Center Directors, Early Childhood Education Manager and other management staff for performance appraisal and corrective action purposes. Facilitates and coordinates meetings and trainings as assigned or in coordination with the Manager, ECE.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development and/or related field.
- Must possess and maintain a Child Development Permit (Master Teacher or Higher); and meet ongoing educational requirements to qualify for child development permit/CDA requirements.
- Must have 3 to 6 units of an Infant/Toddler class(s) from an accredited college with a “B” grade or better.
- Must possess and maintain current pediatric (infant/toddler) CPR first aid certificate.
- Must possess and maintain a food handler’s certificate.
EXPERIENCE:
- Documented 3 to 5 years’ experience working with infants, toddlers, and preschool children.
- Documented 3 years’ experience of successfully providing technical assistance, training, coaching or consultation support.
- Experience with observation documentation/assessment and curriculum process, developmentally appropriate practices, and designing and implementing quality early childhood learning environments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of child development and current research based pedagogy, curriculum resources, appropriate classroom management techniques for teaching environemnts and reflective practice mentor/coaching strategies;
- Knowledge of HS/EHS performance standards.
- Knowledge of adult learning techniques.
- Knowledge of Development milestones of infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
- Must complete California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training as well as Pesticide Safety Training (per Healthy Schools Act) prior to beginning work.
- Prior experience with developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood family services.
- Experience working with diverse families with very young children.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Skype).
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Sustained concentration and attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage work load and deadlines.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills.
- Must obtain and maintain certification to all screenings and assessments used by the ESSC Education department within 18 months of hire. (ERS, CLASS, Creative Curriculum,Teaching Strategies, HOOVERS, HELP, Kindercharts and DRDP.
- Demonstrated competence in ECE instructional methodologies; experience working in a multi-cultural setting.
- Ability to train and provide presentations to large and small groups.
- Ability to properly interpret and implement regulations of the California Department of Education, Funding Terms and Conditions (Title 5), Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing (Title 22), Head Start Performance Standards, and of Easterseals policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups. Must relate well to children and their families and maintain a positive affect.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, plan, establish and meet timelines.
- Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift 40 lbs. continuously. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and squat. Must possess fine manual dexterity. Ability to push, pull, talk/hear, with near and far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field of vision.
- Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test.
- Ability to provide any/all current immunizations as required by the State of California for child development centers and staff.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements. Must have sex offender index clearance.
- Ability to travel locally with reliable transportation, maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards, and maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration.
