Location: This is an on-site position out of Aurora, CO.

Clearance requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Job Summary:

In the hands-on Software Engineering Section Leader role, you will provide guidance and technical direction to a team of software developers. Raytheon is seeking candidates who have demonstrated successful technical leadership and understand software development. You will also design, develop, and test Java code in a Linux, Agile, DevOps environment.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

The hands-on Software Engineering Section Leader will design, develop, and maintain advanced software applications and serve as section leader for a group of engineers. This role involves close collaboration with other managers and leaders, systems engineers, hardware designers, and other software engineers to deliver reliable and high-performance software solutions. Other responsibilities to anticipate may include:

• Leading, managing, and mentoring the engineers within your section.
• Have regular meetings with the employees both as a group and individual.
• Perform weekly timecard approvals.
• Perform yearly appraisals and mid-year reviews.
• Have regular open-door meetings.
• Be keenly aware of employee gaps and overall development needs and the ability to work with employes to fill the gaps.
• Approve expense reports.
• Design, implement, and test Java-based applications and software components for satellite ground systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications.
• Work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary.
• Ensure software performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities.
• Be a team player incorporating a team-based success philosophy.
• Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of their immediate supervisor.
• Follow established Software processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in Java and satellite technology to drive innovation.

Basic Qualifications:

• 8 years of experience as a hands-on software developer with software lead experience
• Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and eight (8) years of software engineering experience.
• Experience with the entire software lifecycle
• Experienced with Object-Oriented Analysis (OOA) and Object-Oriented Design (OOD)
• Experience with Java, C++, JUnit, and other SW tools in the Linux operating system
• Agile development experience
• DevOps experience
• Experience mentoring employees
• Demonstrated leadership qualities, including mentoring of teammates.
• Demonstrated decision making, including the ability to provide justification of decisions.
• Experience writing status reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience managing software development teams.
• Experienced with Ground Station Satellite Telemetry and Command (T&C) and/or Mission Management (MM)
• Experience with Ansible, Jenkins, containers, and the Spring Framework
• Security+ certification
• Experience using the Gitlab and Atlassian tool suites.
• Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting.
• Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

The salary range for this role is 94,000 USD - 196,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
