Position follows 4/10 work schedule, Friday through Monday 5:30am 4:00pm Non-Exempt Overtime Eligible Benefits eligible & 401(a) payment equal to 5% of base salary Salary: MWI $27.01-34.47 Hourly MWII $29.87-38.11 Hourly General Summary: The Facilities and Parks Division within the City of Lancaster's Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services (PARCS) Department is comprised of dedicated individuals whose service is to directly enhance the community by providing quality facility maintenance of clean, safe, and improved public spaces. Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level position. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level. Employees work under general supervision while learning job tasks. Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level position. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I by the assignment of the full range of duties and lead responsibility related to specific projects, as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Maintain logs and records of work performed; maintain supply lists; order supplies as assigned.
• Check and lock buildings during non-business hours.
• Inventory and report building repair and maintenance needs.
• Perform housekeeping duties.
• Assist in servicing heating and air conditioning units.
• Assist in painting of City buildings and facilities.
• Assist in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs and maintenance.
• Inspect pool and aquatic facilities for safety, perform water quality testing and adjust treatment processes.
• Maintain and remove trees and stumps for right-of-way clearance.
• Remove trash and debris from roadways.
• Perform weed abatement and vegetation control by use of chemicals, hand tools and light power equipment.
• Operate power equipment such as weed whips, hedger, chain saw, gas blowers, and tractors for street maintenance.
• Perform preventative maintenance procedures and minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment used.
• Clean and care for tools and equipment.
• Apply safe work practices in the public right of way.
• Inspect Park grounds, structures, medians, and related facilities for safety, appearance, and vandalism problems; ensure contracted staff have completed work properly.
• Clean and clear park grounds, structures, and parkways of debris and hazardous conditions; set-up park facilities and structures for special events.
• Install, maintain and repair irrigation facilities and on occasion may assist in other projects.
• Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, and color spots; clear sites of weeds.
• Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the construction and repair of park facilities.
• Operate light grounds maintenance equipment as well as a variety of hand tools and equipment.
• May inspect the work of landscape maintenance contractors.
• Answer questions and provide information to the public; explain policies and procedures to customers during the course of work activities.
• Assist in training new employees; monitor and assign tasks to court referrals workers and contract labor as appropriate.
• Perform related duties as assigned. The duties listed above are not intended to be all-inclusive. An employee may also perform other related duties as assigned by their immediate supervisor. This position is considered (non-exempt)

Minimum Qualifications:

Maintenance Worker I High School Diploma or equivalent One (1) year of experience in field construction and maintenance work Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license Maintenance Worker II High School Diploma or equivalent Two (2) years of experience in field construction and maintenance work similar to the Maintenance Worker I classification Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license Knowledge of: Basic techniques and practices used in construction, repair, and maintenance of public facilities and infrastructure General use, purpose and maintenance of tools, equipment, and methods used in field maintenance construction work and turf management Principles and practices of work safety Basic computer skills
