Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Responsibilities Responsible for producing high quality X‑ray images by conducting exams in a safe and efficient manner. Verifies and follows referring providers’ orders while remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences departmental policies. Possesses a sound understanding of human anatomy as well as x‑ray positioning and the use of immobilization devices when warranted. Band One (I) – Entry Level Radiologic Technologist Technologists new to URMC Imaging Department who require training as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist. This generally involves orientation to the Department’s infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures and routines. During this period the Technologists must demonstrate an ability to progress towards proficient and competent performance of required tasks of a Radiologic Technologist. Success within this band requires independent responsibility for performing general section studies in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer work while providing high quality images for radiologist interpretation. Typical Duties Prepares room and patient per order, properly sets up equipment, positions patients, and determines proper exposure factors in order to produce a high‑quality image. Utilizes electronic patient information systems to verify patient name, date, appropriate exam, and any special exam‑specific comments from the provider. Understands and practices the Dual patient identifier procedure. Maintains appropriate supplies in the x‑ray rooms. Produces a diagnostic, high quality image for interpretation by the Radiologist. Transfers patients to and from imaging tables using assistive devices such as ARJO lift, transfer boards, hover mats. Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly. Completes and bills for studies accurately. At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day‑to‑day work activities. Qualifications Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology. Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required. Career Ladder Band One (I) – Entry Level Radiologic Technologist. Requirements and duties as described above. Band Two (II) – Competent Radiologic Technologist. With minimal supervision, demonstrates proficiency and competence in all aspects of job responsibilities and expectations, and consistently demonstrates initiative to assist in other areas of the department. Able to work with student technologists to sign off on their required competencies. Requires minimal supervision. Demonstrates consistent attention to detail when performing all imaging exams. Completes all associated paper and computer work for discharging patients with appropriate post‑procedure instructions. May be involved in special projects such as new equipment evaluations and departmental committees. Band Two status requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an Imaging Sciences setting, with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department. Band Three (III) – Advanced Radiologic Technologist. Includes all responsibilities of Band Two, plus precepting of new technologists, subject‑matter expertise in downtime procedures, acting as a super‑user for new equipment or programs, and representing the department on safety, quality, and operations committees. Prepares staff for NYS and TJC evaluations, facilitates new policies and procedures, and serves as a resource for special projects. May be designated as a Lead to support operations on various shifts, assist the shift supervisor, or determine workflow and staff assignments. Requires a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department.
