Location: Salt Lake City, Utah, United StatesCompany: AAPCPosted: 2026-08-04This is a remote roleWe are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated coding professional to join our team as an contract inpatient facility coder. This position is remote. The ideal candidate must have at least 5 years of coding experience with facility inpatient services. The position requires one to be resourceful, organized, independent, and extremely driven.The ideal candidate will possess the following:Minimum 5 years of coding experienceExtensive coding in all aspects of inpatient codingHigh level of proficiency in anatomy, physiology, disease process, and pharmacologyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDetail oriented and deadline driven attitudeSound knowledge of medical terminologyStrong computer skills (Excel, Word, and internet)Ability to think criticallyAbility to multitask and keep a sense of urgencyExcellent customer service skillsStrong time management, organization skills, and work ethicJob Duties:Accurately code medical records for all inpatient servicesFollow current ICD-10-CM and PCS coding guidelinesAccurately assign POA (Present on Admission) indicatorsUnderstand and apply MS-DRGs and APR-DRGsAbstract additional client elements (ie: providers, surgical dates, etc)Ability to communicate effectively with Clinical Documentation Improvement specialists and reconcile DRGsAbility to work independently and meet project deadlinesStay updated about new coding rules as codes routinely changeResponsible and accountable for maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information. Follow HIPAA security policies and procedures affecting your job, and report any suspected or actual violation or breachRequires long periods of time sitting and using keyboard and mouseMeet and maintain department production and quality standardsAdditional tasks/duties as assigned by managementCertification Requirements:CIC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIAExpected Work VolumesWork volumes will vary depending upon projectsAAPC Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
