Air Transport Float Nurse

Job Description Position Summary CareFlite is seeking a highly skilled Air Transport Float Nurse to provide advanced critical care to patients during air, ground, and specialty transport operations. This role is responsible for assessing patient conditions, performing advanced interventions, and ensuring safe and efficient transport across our service area. This position is ideal for experienced critical care nurses who thrive in dynamic, high-acuity environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities Deliver advanced critical care to critically ill or injured patients during transport Perform patient assessments and implement interventions within CareFlite’s clinical scope Collaborate with paramedics, pilots, dispatch, and healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation Ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and organizational policies Demonstrate strong situational awareness across air and ground environments Schedule: 24 hours on / 72 hours off, including weekends and holidays (365-day operations) Float Assignment: Primarily based in the DFW area but required to cover shifts across the service area, including Burnet, TX Hotel accommodations may be provided when assigned to distant bases Float assignments may be communicated the same day as shift start Overtime: May be required based on operational needs and mission demand Environment: Aircraft, ground ambulances, hospitals, and outdoor settings Exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, confined spaces, and transport-related hazards Travel: Frequent travel within the service area; occasional overnight stays On-Call: Participation in on-call rotation as required Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to lift and carry patients and equipment (up to 100 lbs. with assistance) Maximum weight of 230 lbs. in full flight gear Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces Exposure to loud noise, vibration, exhaust, rotating aircraft components, and bodily fluids Must pass background check, drug screening, physical assessment, and audiology testing What We’re Looking For Strong clinical expertise and critical thinking skills Excellent teamwork and communication abilities High level of professionalism and composure under stress Commitment to safety, patient advocacy, and quality care Dedication to continuous learning and professional growth Why Join CareFlite? BCLS, ACLS, PALS
