Reports To: Mechanic Shop SupervisorDepartment: Concrete OperationsPosition SummaryThe Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of company-owned diesel equipment, with a primary focus on ready-mix concrete mixer trucks. This position also supports maintenance and repair of other fleet vehicles and equipment as needed to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance on diesel-powered mixer trucks, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, air systems, and braking systems.Inspect, adjust, repair, and replace components such as cooling systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, belts, hoses, alternators, starters, and valves.Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues and resolve them in a timely and efficient manner.Perform preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and DOT-related checks.Repair engine failures and mechanical or electrical malfunctions on trucks, trailers, and other company equipment.Fabricate, modify, or weld parts and equipment when necessary.Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance performed.Prepare basic work estimates and communicate repair needs with supervisors.Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and operable condition.Support repairs on additional company vehicles and equipment outside of mixer trucks as operational needs require.Follow all company safety policies and procedures and promote a safe working environment.Uphold company policies, standards, and values while contributing to continuous improvement efforts.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED requiredMinimum of five (5) years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic preferredExperience working on ready-mix concrete trucks or heavy-duty diesel equipment strongly preferredEquivalent combinations of education and experience will be consideredTechnical SkillsStrong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic systemsWelding and fabrication skills preferredAbility to use diagnostic tools and standard shop equipmentCertificates & LicensesValid driver's license requiredCDL is a plus, but not requiredPhysical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds regularlyWork is performed primarily in a heavy equipment maintenance shop and yard environmentExposure to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, and varying temperaturesReasonable Accommodation Statement: Sorrento Lumber Co., Inc. is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with applicable federal and Louisiana state laws.Benefits SummaryWe offer a competitive benefits package designed to support your health, financial security, and well-being:Medical Insurance - Three plan options available; employee must elect or decline coverageDental Insurance - Coverage for preventive, basic, and major servicesVision Insurance - Coverage for exams, frames, lenses, or contactsGroup Life Insurance - $10,000 Life & AD&D coverage provided at no cost to the employeeVoluntary Life Insurance - Additional Life & AD&D coverage availableDisability Insurance - Covers up to 60% of income for covered accident or illnessCancer Insurance - Helps offset out-of-pocket medical and non-medical expenses and includes cancer screening benefitsAccident Insurance - Helps cover costs not paid by health insurance due to covered injuries401(k) Retirement Plan - Available after one (1) year of employment, with enrollment eligibility on the 1st of the month following the one-year anniversaryDrug-Free WorkplaceThis position is subject to the Company's Drug-Free Workplace Policy.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementSorrento Lumber Co., Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
