Job Summary: The Traffic Control Crew Lead is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient setup and management of traffic control operations on job sites in accordance with NCDOT and company standards. This role will lead a crew in the field, ensure all work is performed safely, and serve as the primary point of contact for traffic control-related activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Lead the daily setup, monitoring, and takedown of traffic control devices per project requirements and NCDOT standards.

· Complete and document Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) for each assigned project site.

· Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures and take appropriate action to correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.

· Read and interpret DOT-provided plans and implement them accurately in the field.

· Communicate effectively with internal team members, contractors, and other project stakeholders to always maintain clear and precise communication.

· Maintain a positive working relationship with customers and ensure the company’s reputation for quality service is upheld.

· Ensure all traffic control operations meet the specifications and requirements of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

· Support other crew members and assist in additional tasks as needed to ensure overall crew performance and work zone safety.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)

· Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. regularly

· Stand for extended periods and move continuously throughout shift

· Comfortable working near live traffic and in active roadway environments

Required Competencies and Qualifications:

· Excellent attendance and punctuality are a must

· Dependable transportation to and from work sites

· Willingness to travel within the assigned region for daily job assignments

· Must wear required PPE at all times (work boots, hard hat, high-visibility safety vest)

· Certified in Traffic Control through the NCDOT or ATSSA, and registered in the NCDOT database.

· In-depth understanding of NCDOT traffic control specifications and the ability to implement them in the field.

· Proven ability to complete Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) for each project assignment.

· Strong knowledge of company safety policies and the ability to enforce them consistently.

· Effective verbal and written communication skills with both internal staff and external contractors.

· Ability to read and follow DOT plans and translate them into accurate field implementations.

· Demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to quality service and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

· 2 Years of experience in a traffic control, construction, or utility work leadership role.

· Familiarity with NCDOT specifications and MUTCD guidelines

· Flagger certification (ATSSA or equivalent)

· Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

Compensation details: 19.5-23 Hourly Wage
