Mechanical Technician

This position is located in Textron Systems’ Sea Systems business area and supports the development of unmanned naval products. The role requires travel for experimental testing, on‑water operations, and support of surface systems. About This Role This full‑time Mechanical Technician will perform test, integration, and maintenance of mechanical systems. The candidate will operate and troubleshoot ocean‑going Unmanned Surface Systems, assist engineers and designers with prototype development, and support off‑site qualification testing according to written procedures. Responsibilities Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot ocean‑going Unmanned Surface Systems and support craft. Assist engineers and designers with prototype development and testing. Support off‑site qualification testing in accordance with written procedures. Develop operational and technical manuals. Interface with existing and prospective customers and service members at operational and maintenance demonstrations. Perform laboratory maintenance, safety audits, and material tracking. Promote a safety‑first mindset for all on‑site and off‑site testing. Qualifications Professional written and oral communication skills. Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance. Strong ability to interpret drawings and schematics. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks. Capability to work in extreme weather conditions on water and in confined spaces. Swimming proficiency. Willingness to work extended hours and travel up to 50% of the year. Knowledge and use of common hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments. Experience with diesel engines strongly preferred. Experience assembling maritime systems, boating or shipboard experience strongly preferred. Experience as a small‑boat handler is a plus.
