School Based Speech/Language Pathologist Position: School Speech-Language Therapist Department: Speech Therapy Reports to: Principal Summary: Provides Speech Language Therapy services as mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Responsibilities Provides individual student services as mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Provides classroom collaborative and direct speech-language therapy services to children as indicated in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) Conducts speech, hearing and language screenings for three-year re-evaluations as needed for children enrolled in the Achievement Centers for Children Autism School program Serves as a member of the educational team and as a liaison to related agencies and the community as necessary Completes all mandated process and procedures including Individualized Education Program (IEP) development and Evaluation Team Report (ETR) documentation as part of the Multi-factored Evaluation (MFE) process Develops communication skills programs for all children served, using assistive technology and/or various alternative/augmentative non‑verbal/total communication strategies as appropriate to individual need Serves as a resource person to all parents and staff Provides consultation and/or in‑service for staff, parents and other speech‑language pathologists regarding appropriate speech and language instructional strategies for classroom, home and/or community use Maintains accurate records, prepares and submits all required statistical reports, including but not limited to progress monitoring, behavioral data collection and service records Completes additional duties as requested by the Director of Education and Program Manager(s) Required Qualifications Master's degree with a major in Communication Disorders or an equivalent major. Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with a team. Ability to manage time effectively. Ability to adapt to frequent changes and variations in duties and responsibilities. Thoughtful, courteous, patient, friendly, tactful and enthusiastic. Eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech‑Language Hearing Association. Eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio as a Speech‑Language Pathologist. Eligible for a School Certificate from the Ohio Department of Education to work in the preschool classroom. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a Speech‑Language Pathologist in an urban school setting. Knowledge of learning styles and developmental growth patterns of children. Demonstrated ability to provide speech and language services to children. Interest in creating developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom/collaborative models for instruction and/or therapeutic intervention. Demonstrated ability to provide speech and language services to children. Physical Demands Frequently lifts children weighing up to 75 pounds. Operates a computer keyboard. Stands for long periods of time. Observes and interacts with children in a variety of settings, requiring the ability to see, hear and speak to them. Displays mobility skills to keep children challenged but safe. Operates specialized equipment such as swings, switch toys and computers. Works on the floor and/or in a child-sized chair, including frequent bending, twisting and moving up/down from the floor. Working Conditions Requires evening and/or weekend work. Requires participation in special events or functions outside of normal hours. Requires working outdoors. Requires working at different sites and traveling off-site to provide services. Requires reliable transportation and a valid Ohio driver's license.
