Controls Technician

Subsidiary: T&H Services Job Title: Controls Technician Work Location: US Naval Observatory Labor Category: Non-Exempt | CBA Pay Rate: $52.89 per hour About the Role Performs maintenance testing, and repairs on all electronic, electrical and pneumatic control systems as related to refrigeration and HVAC systems. What You’ll Be Doing Installs, services, and repairs environmental-control systems, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layouts. Performs a variety of trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Performs startup, turnover, and shutdown procedures of environmental control systems. Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source. Installs water and air filters incompetedinstallations Injects refrigerant into compressor to test systems. Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation. Assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts using appropriate tools and welding equipment. Cuts and bends tubing, cuts and threads pipes, joins tubing and pipes to machinery. Repairs defective breaker controls, generators, transformers, controllers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, air conditioning ducting, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units. Utilizes electrician’s hand tools and test equipment. Tests for leaks and observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operations. Supports generator readiness and emergency power compliance, including documentation of inspections, maintenance actions, and operational status. Work from blueprints, drawings, layout, or other specifications to locate and troubleshoot the electrical system or equipment, working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment. Conduct Real Property Inventory. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. What We’re Looking For Three (3) years related experience. Experience with commercial and industrial systems is preferred. EPA Section 608 certification is mandatory. Additional certifications (e.g., NATE) are highly valued. Must be able to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and diagrams as they pertain to the craft. Understanding of safety procedures and ability to work in compliance with OSHA and workplace safety regulations. Must be able to maintain the ability to access the government worksite. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position.
