About the Role 

We are a fast-moving InsurTech SaaS company building and delivering a modern core platform for property and casualty insurers. We are looking for a Head of Quality Engineering who combines deep P&C domain knowledge with modern quality engineering leadership. This is not a purely administrative role. You will set strategy, grow the team, modernize automation, and stay close to the product and technology when hands-on leadership is needed. 

You will embed quality throughout the software lifecycle and expand our use of AI in development and testing. Your mandate is to increase speed and confidence together through scalable, risk-based, evidence-driven quality practices. 

In This Role, You Will 

• Own the quality engineering strategy, operating model, roadmap, standards, metrics, and release-readiness practices. 
• Lead and develop a team of quality engineers while remaining hands-on with test strategy, automation design, critical defects, and complex releases. 
• Build scalable automation across web, API, microservice, integration, data, and end-to-end insurance workflows. 
• Partner with Product and Engineering to improve requirements, testability, observability, CI/CD controls, and defect prevention. 
• Apply P&C knowledge to policy administration, rating, forms, billing, underwriting, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, and integrations. 
• Create a responsible roadmap for AI-assisted testing with human verification, documentation, security, privacy, and measurable outcomes. 
• Use risk-based metrics to communicate release confidence and customer impact. 
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective-action programs for significant quality events. 

What You Bring 

• 10+ years of progressive experience in software quality assurance or quality engineering, including leadership of QA/QE teams and programs. 
• Hands-on leadership experience spanning strategy, coaching, architecture discussions, test design, automation review, and defect investigation. 
• Significant P&C insurance technology experience, including policy administration or another core platform and carrier or MGA workflows. 
• Experience leading quality for modern SaaS products using APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and relational data stores. 
• Deep knowledge of risk-based testing, automation strategy, test architecture, nonfunctional testing, defect prevention, and release governance. 
• Experience in Agile product development with frequent releases and changing priorities. 
• Strong communication, executive judgment, and the ability to translate complex risk into clear decisions. 

Desired Differentiator Experience 

• Homeowners, flood, or other personal-lines P&C experience. 
• Experience with rating, forms, billing, payments, underwriting, renewals, cancellations, reinstatements, data conversion, or third-party integrations. 
• Experience in an early-stage or growth-stage SaaS or InsurTech company. 
• Experience with AI-assisted testing, agent-based execution, intelligent test selection, synthetic test data, or AI-supported defect analysis. 
• Experience with performance, security, accessibility, resilience, and production-quality engineering. 
• Relevant certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, CSQA, or CMSQ. 

Location and Travel 

This is not a remote position. The successful candidate will be based in either St. Petersburg, Florida, or Kalispell, Montana. Travel is expected to average approximately 20%. 

Compensation 

Starting at $150,000 base salary, plus annual bonus eligibility and stock options. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, location, and other job-related factors.
