Key Responsibilities

• Conducts physician-prescribed respiratory treatments using invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
• Performs arterial puncture, oximetry, capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Performs tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent), and assists with procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement
• Performs 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Sets up, self-tests, operates, and monitors mechanical ventilation equipment; assists with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Documents all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately in patient records and communicates findings to attending and pulmonary physicians

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license or certification valid in the state of Michigan
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Ability to operate various ventilatory and respiratory care equipment with minimal supervision
• Experience performing arterial puncture, endotracheal intubation via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope, and pulmonary function studies

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience assisting with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement procedures
• Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing policies and procedures including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Experience with PleurX catheter drainage or similar devices
