Machine Operator

Job Description

SCOPE:

Produce product by operating various types of machines in compliance with Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) Programs and quality assurance systems to support the achievement of the sites goals and business objectives. Starting, stopping, adjusting line speed and inspecting for defects. Monitoring equipment, recording production and scrap.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

\n
• Perform duties to set up and operate MPE CTL Dept. equipment within production goals and standard set up times.
\n
• Perform duties associated with manually sorting MPE tubing.
\n
• Ensure specifications are met by changing and set prescribed tooling to suit tubing size and set arc and pressure, making continued adjustments to meet material variations
\n
• Proficient use of equipment required by job function
\n
• Change and adjust blades as required.
\n
• Use jib crane or overhead crane to position coil on pay off.
\n
• Use of electric pallet jacks to maneuver spools.
\n
• Set up and operate cutting equipment, clamping jaws and guards and set stops.
\n
• Set speed and feed to suit product requirements.
\n
• Position tubing in guide and cut and check first piece.
\n
• Obtain first piece approval prior to completing lot run.
\n
• Work to production orders, packing specifications and instruction.
\n
• Select proper material for packing based on product specifications and packing requirements.
\n
• Prepare packaging materials. Pre-make boxes and stock bins with filler, pre-cut paper, prep tote/pallet etc.
\n
• Check work at prescribed intervals and record data on check sheets.
\n
• Ability to follow containment procedures and report serious defects or equipment problems to team leader.
\n
• Maintain equipment by cleaning, oiling and removing chips and scraps as indicated.
\n
• Empty scrap boxes regularly.
\n
• Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
\n
• Knowledge of chemical hazards, waste management procedures, and implementation of emergency response procedures.
\n
• Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions.
\n
• Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
\n
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5 S standards.
\n
• Requires the ability to perform all duties within limitation of the standard methods and procedures, and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity requirements.
\n

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a non-air-conditioned manufacturing production environment (i.e. Hot in the Summer, Cold in the Winter). There will be a need to enter the production floor and employee may be subject to hazards including odors, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, noise and Temperature. This requires ability to safely maneuver throughout the plant and properly wear safety gear at all times. May be subject to environmental conditions.

• Maneuver spools from floor rails, take ups and pay offs several times per day
\n
• Frequently standing for long periods of time, walking, use of hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands or arms, repetitive motion, close visual acuity, stoop, kneel or crouch. Employee frequently lifts or moves up to 25 lbs and occasional lifts or moves up to 50 pounds.
\n
• Ability to identify and distinguish colors, specifically red.
\n
• Flashing lights in the MPE area may trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy.
\n
• Occasional; sitting, step up or crawl
\n

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:

There are not supervisor responsibilities with this position.

TRAVEL:

No Travel Expected

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This position is a full-time hourly Non-exempt position.Normal hours of work are Monday through Friday, Second shift 3:00pm-11:00pm or Third shift 11:00pm-7:00am shifts, 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required before or after the normal schedule or weekends.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

\n
• Ability to exercise judgement within limitation of standard methods and procedure.
\n
• Ability to handle basic math
\n
• Ability to read and interpret simple reference material such as printed instructions and blueprints.
\n
• Ability to operate a jib crane, overhead crane, and electric pallet jacks.
\n
• Proficient use of measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers and fix gauges where interpretation is required.
\n
• Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
\n
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
\n
• Knowledge of process related standards.
\n
• Proven ability to develop successful partnerships with internal and external team members
\n

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

• Proficient in shop mathematics and layout techniques
\n
• Previous experience working in a heavy industrial and or manufacturing environment
\n
• Certified Production Technician
\n
• LEAN manufacturing principles
\n
• Knowledge of HSE regulations
\n
• Intermediate or better Microsoft excel skills
\n
• Ability to think critically and theoretically
