Infection Preventionist (RN)

Job Summary:The Nurse Infection Preventionist is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating infection prevention and control programs within the healthcare facility. They work collaboratively with healthcare teams to minimize the risk of infections and promote a safe and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors.Key Responsibilities:Infection Control Policies and Procedures:Develop, update, and implement infection control policies and procedures based on current guidelines and evidence-based practices.Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to infection prevention.Surveillance and Data Analysis:Conduct surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and communicable diseases.Collect, analyze, and interpret infection data to identify trends and areas for improvement.Education and Training:Provide education and training to healthcare staff on infection prevention practices, hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and other relevant topics.Orient new employees and volunteers to infection control protocols.Outbreak Investigation:Investigate and manage outbreaks of infections within the facility.Collaborate with epidemiologists and local health authorities when necessary.Environmental Control:Oversee environmental cleaning and disinfection processes to ensure a safe and sanitary healthcare environment.Advise on the selection and use of cleaning products.Patient Care Practices:Monitor and assess adherence to infection prevention practices during patient care activities, including invasive procedures.Provide guidance on proper aseptic techniques.Compliance Monitoring:Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with infection control standards.Develop corrective action plans when deficiencies are identified.Outcomes and Quality Improvement:Collaborate with quality improvement teams to develop strategies for reducing HAIs and improving patient outcomes.Track and report infection rates and prevention measures.Communication and Reporting:Communicate infection control information to healthcare providers, patients, and families.Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.Research and Best Practices:Stay current with the latest research and best practices in infection prevention.Implement evidence-based interventions to reduce infections.Qualifications:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher degree in nursing.Active nursing license in the state of practice.Certification in Infection Control (e.g., CIC) is preferred.Experience in infection prevention and control within a healthcare setting is often required.Strong knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, and infectious diseases.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Attention to detail and analytical skills for data analysis.Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to infection control.
